Jean Steiner Moore, BHS 1938
Jean S. Moore left this Earth to be with our Lord on May 21 2003. Born Lois Jean Steiner on Jan. 12 1921 in Selma Calif. Jean grew up in Burbank Calif. She was a third-generation native Californian. Jean graduated from Burbank High School in 1938 where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband James (Jim) Moore Jr. when she was 15 and he was 16. She graduated from the University of Redlands in 1942 and was married on June 15 of that year.
Toward the end of World War II Jean her husband Jim with their first son Steve lived a short time in Sing Tao China where she discovered her love of travel. From 1949 to 1957 Jean and Jim lived in Yuma Ariz. where Jim coached high school football and Jean began raising their young family in earnest which included daughter Martha and youngest son Mark. While in Yuma Jean and Jim established many wonderful lifelong friendships.
In 1957 they moved to Ventura and in 1967 relocated to the Camarillo area. Jean was a physical education teacher for many years at Ventura High School retiring from the Ventura Unified School District in 1981. Of the many physical education subjects she taught field hockey modern dance and swimming were among her favorites. After retirement she took up golf and was an active member at Las Posas Country Club. Jean and Jim enjoyed many wonderful vacations together including favorite trips to Russia Scotland Ireland and Hawaii. She also enjoyed gardening tap-dancing with the Syncopated Seniors and aqua aerobics with many club friends.
Jean fully embraced life and was never afraid to try something new which including roller skating as an adult (broken arm) a helicopter ride to an Alaskan glacier drift boating the Klamath River and white-water rafting on the Trinity River. She was a longtime member of many organizations including P.E.O. La Estrella Dance Club and Forty Leaguers. Jean was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Ventura and Trinity Presbyterian Church in Camarillo. Jean was always positive quick to smile with a keen wit and sparkling personality.
She instilled in her children honesty hard work love of family and patience. Jean's many friends meant the world to her.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents Lola and Elmer Steiner of Burbank. She is survived by her family including her loving husband of more than 60 years Jim Moore; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Ruth Moore of Oscoda Mich.; daughter and son-in-law Martha and Tony Beckman of Santa Maria; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Susy Moore of Eureka; grandchildren Kathryn and Andy Moore Jim and Ben Beckman and June Moore; step-grandchildren Sarah Albrent and Michelle Beckman; and great-grandchildren Kai Beckman and Lauren Albrent.
Jean resided in Camarillo for the past 36 years. Her family and many wonderful friends will dearly miss her. Special thanks go to the many wonderful health-care professionals who assisted in her care over the past three months. Friends are welcome to visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday May 26 at Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary 1075 E. Daily Drive Camarillo.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday May 27 at Trinity Presbyterian Church corner of Las Posas Road and Antonio Drive Camarillo. Please join us in honoring Jean at www.mem.com.
