Richard Allen Huette, 72, a longtime resident of Olympia, lost his brief battle with cancer on April 20, 2010.
Richard was born on November 1, 1937 in Burbank, CA to Jesse and Mille Huette. Graduating from Burbank Senior High Scool with the class of 1956, Richard spent his life in Burbank until he enlisted in the Army in 1957. In October of 1959, he married Joan Grayson in Olympia, WA. She preceded him in death. In September of 1989 he married Carol Harden, who also preceded him in death.
After his discharge from military service in 1963, Richard spent the next 23 years as a firefighter for the City of Olympia. He retired in 1987 as Lieutenant Huette. On his days off from the fire department, he delivered furniture for Goldberg's Furniture in Olympia. After retirement he worked for 10 years for the State of Washington Archives.
When not working, he enjoyed his love of boating, fishing, and clam digging at the beach.He was a member of the VFW and Eagles Lodge, also the International Association of Firefighters.Dick was a gentleman and a soft-spoken guy who had a lot of friends. He enjoyed traveling and having fun with everyone he was around.
Surviving Dick are his friend Faye Carlson, son Kenneth Huette, daughter Kelly Forsman, 3 grandchildren, Patrick, Robert and Michael Gottbreht, and sister Phyllis Riggs. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Huette.
A memorial service is planned for Monday, May 10, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the VFW Hall, 2962 Martin Way, Olympia, potluck following.Family suggests donations to your favorite charity.
