Mary Jean Anderson Powell, BHS 1943
Jean Powell, 76, died April 19, 2001, at her home in Bear Valley Springs. Ms. Powell, born Mary Jean Anderson on Dec. 9, 1924, in Salina, Kan., moved to Burbank in 1941. She attended Burbank High School and graduated in the class of 1943.
After graduation, she was employed as a painter at Walt Disney Studios. In 1947, she married Edwin H. Powell Jr. Ms. Powell was an active member of Little White Chapel in Burbank from 1951 to 1974, where she was the church organist for 10 years. She also taught piano at her Burbank home. In 1974, she moved to Glendale and became active in the Glendale Newcomers Club, especially in golf and bridge. In 1990, after her husband retired, they made their home in Bear Valley Springs, a mountain community west of Tehachapi.
Ms. Powell is survived by her husband, Edwin; daughter Linda Powell Rofer; son Bruce Powell; and four grandchildren. The family has planned a private memorial service. Ms. Powell will be cremated and her ashes scattered at sea. In lieu of flowers,

Such a kind, vivacious person. She was my piano teacher for a number of years. So blessed to have known you, Mrs. Powell.
