Rosamond man faces murder charges

A Rosamond man is facing hearings in January on a charge that he murdered his live-in girlfriend in October.
Rigoberto Gonzalez, 28, has pleaded not guilty to the charge stemming from the Oct. 7, 2008 stabbing death of 26-year-old Wendy Garcia. Gonzalez was also stabbed in the Oct. 5 incident and was treated at Kern Medical Center, the sheriff’s department reported.
Garcia was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital where she was officially pronounced dead on Oct. 7, the coroner’s office reported. But she was kept on life support until Oct. 27, the coroner staff said.
Gonzalez was arraigned on Dec. 18 in Bakersfield. Further hearings are set Jan. 29 and 30.
Oct. 7: Wendy Garcia, 26, was pronounced brain dead in Antelope Valley Hospital following a knife fight with her live-in boyfriend, Rigoberto Gonzalez, 28, in Rosamond on Oct. 5. She was kept on life support until Oct. 27, but under the law the date of her death was Oct. 7. Gonzalez was also stabbed and was treated at Kern Medical Center, but he has been charged with murder and is awaiting further court hearings in January.
