An ultralight airplane crashed Saturday north of Lodi, killing one of its passengers and injuring the pilot.
Barry Sherman, 53, of San Jose, was transported to the University of California's Davis Medical Center but died from his injuries. His companion, whose name was unavailable, was taken to Lodi Memorial Hospital, said Nellie Stone, spokeswoman for the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department.
The ultralight went down in a field in the 4700 block of East Collier Road at 2:15 p.m.The Federal Aviation Administration took over the investigation after an initial response from the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department, Stone said Sunday.
