Merwin William Chew, BHS 1943
June 07, 2013 Merwin William Chew, born in Burbank 11/4/1925, passed peacefully in his home 4/29/2013 due to a massive stroke at age 87½. He is survived by his children, Cheryl Musacchia, Gary (Ann), Brian (Alvina), and Eric (Shelley) Chew; 11 grandchildren, 2 greatgrandchildren, and 3 siblings, Nolan (Nancy), Roger (Barbara) Chew, and Janie (Don) Boucher.
Merwin was raised in Pasadena and Burbank, graduated from Burbank High, and served in the Navy during WWII. He retired from California County Title Insurance Co. in Santa Ana at the age of 80. Merwin was an active member of Burbank First Presbyterian Church, where he and his wife of 60 yrs, Dorothy, were married. They bought a home in Monterey Park in 1948 when there were green rolling hills and pollywog ponds along Garfield Ave.
Merwin was well known for being friendly, kind and a fun man to be with. He loved deep sea fishing with his sons and brothers, family reunions at Lake Tahoe, movies/musicals, cribbage/poker, building a family cabin at Green Valley Lake, camping, fireworks, the Pasadena Rose Parade, Christmas and traveling abroad with his wife and family. He was very devoted to Dorothy’s care during her battle with Alzheimer’s until her death in 2008.
Merwin was buried beside his wife at Oakdale Cemetery, Glendora on 5/11/13. His family and friends know that Merwin lived a very full life and will also remember his sparkling blue eyes forever.
