Stanley Vance Plowman, BHS 1947
1929 - 2013
Stanley Vance Plowman. (84) of Moscow, ID died peacefully the evening of July 25, 2013 at Avalon Care Center near Moscow, Idaho. He was surrounded by family and serenaded for 3 hours with beautiful harp music provided by a loved friend.
Stan was born in Burbank, California on May 17, 1929 to Paul Plowman and Susan Fulton Plowman as the third child following elder sisters Katie and Mary Jo. He grew up in Burbank and attended Burbank schools. He continued his education at Glendale College and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Stan married Joan Zinniger on December 29, 1949 in Burbank. Stan and Joan's early family years with three children were in the San Fernando Valley and Santa Maria. With three teenagers in tow, they'd had enough of city life, so they moved to a small town to operate their marina on Trinity Lake in Trinity Center. A long-term friend said they arrived in Trinity with stars in their eyes and dreams in their heads, and the city folk were thrown into realities of bears on the deck, mountain lions stalking their dog, and wind storms that wreaked havoc with the marina. They overcame all challenges and became valued members of the community.
An unexpected fourth child was born and raised on the marina and became the source of entertainment for everyone as they came to boat.Stan's exploratory nature carried him through interesting and fun employment: cabinet maker for Hollywood movie star homes, Lockheed supervisor that controlled the missile spare parts at Vandenberg Air Force Base, owner of Recreation Plus Marina in partnership with his brother-in-law Ted Zinniger. He served as a member on the Trinity Center Community Service Board of Directors, and completed his career as a Trinity County Supervisor for three terms. Concurrently he served the State of California as a member of the Water Control and Air Quality Control Boards.
Stan's hobbies included nature photography, lapidary jewelry making, custom woodworking, target shooting, and a love for old cars which led to the restoration of his 1956 Jaguar roadster convertible. In retirement he and Joan enjoyed travelling and took trips to many locations in the Western and Eastern United States, Mexico, and Canada often via RV. They took an Alaskan cruise up the Inland Passage with his sisters and a 50th anniversary cruise of the Hawaiian Islands. Stan's most memorable trip was to England and Scotland researching his heritage.
Stan was a very honorable man. His sense of humor always surrounded his family, friends and constituents. He used his humorous nature to entertain, to show love, to diffuse stressful situations, and mostly for sheer fun.
He is survived by Joan, wife of 64 years, sister Mary Jo Connell, sons Steve and Tom, daughters Jan Tuggle and Kate Barnes, numerous grandchildren and one great grandchild. Joan will continue to reside at their home and would welcome hearing from you at 1943 Damen Street, Moscow, ID 83843.
Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday August 17, 2013 at the Trinity Center Community Church in Trinity Center, California. Refreshments will be served. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA is caring for the family. Stan's choice for memorial donations would be your honoring him by sending a gift to the charity of your choice . Online condolences may be sent to www.kimballfh.com Please sign the guestbook at http://obituaries.redding.com
