Ruth Ellen Wood Bradley, BHS 1969

Ruth Ellen Wood Bradley, BHS 1969

Ruth was born on October 30, 1951 to Theodore (Ted) and Flora Ann Wood, in Glendale, California. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family and close friends on July 16, 2013.

Ruth was raised in Burbank, along with her three sisters, Ann (Hand), Mary (Forsen), and Carol (Ruth was #3). Having starred as "Marion the Librarian" in The Music Man, Ruth graduated Burbank High School in 1969.

In 1970, while traveling and performing with the Southern California Youth Chorale in Japan, she met her new best friend and soul mate, Quinton "Corky" Bradley. She instantly became the love of his life. They were married in Hacienda Heights in 1973, and lived in Whittier prior to moving to Irvine, CA.

Blessings came into their lives when, in 1982 Aaron Quinn Bradley was born. And, in 1990, Zachary David Bradley completed their family unit.

Ruth spent most of her professional career as a Commercial Property Manager; at one point managing tenant relations at the largest mall in Orange County: South Coast Plaza.

The Bradley family moved to Fort Collins in 1993 (Ruth's idea!), where she worked in customer relations at Larrabee's, until they closed. From then on, Ruth would just say she was a "kept woman". Ruth enjoyed gardening, going to the gym, traveling, and cooking, as well as spending time with dear friends.

Ruth is survived by her sons Aaron and Zachary, Husband Corky, sisters Ann, Mary, and Carol, and Cooper, her Westie.
As the end of her short life rapidly approached, family and friends gathered to remember and tell stories, laugh, cry, sing, and toast the wonderful times that were shared with Ruth. Since we know that she was nearby and could hear this, we know that it was the perfect way to celebrate her life and influence on the Earth.

Ruth believed that we are all of the same Spirit, and exemplified love, joy, inclusiveness, and respect for all life. She will be dearly missed by everyone who was blessed to know her.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a donation, please do so in Ruth's name to the American Cancer Society, The family would also like to thank the incredible doctors and staff at the University of Colorado Hospital, Aurora, the Fort Collins Center for Neurorehabilitation Services, and Accent Care Hospice.

Rick Polikowski, BHS 1966

Rick Polikowski, BHS 1966

Very sad to receive this email from Guy Gingell, BHS 1966

Our friend, Rick Polikowski, has passed away from cancer around June 2013. Details are slow in coming as he was in living in So America. Rick was a Vietnam Veteran.
Anyone with specific information about where Rick died or where his body or ashes ended up, please call me directly. Guy Gingell 206 459-8864. I am a longtime friend of his and want to make sure he gets the burial he deserves. Thanks

As you may know by now that our friend and classmate at BHS, Rick Polikowski has passed away while living in Coco Beach, Costa Rica. I NEED YOUR HELP in finding out the circumstances of his passing. I understand that Rick was, at best, mistreated the last months of his life and most likely robbed of his dignity, his property and money. At this time, I cannot find out what happened to his remains. I am just distraught about how Rick was taken advantage of in Costa Rica. I will be organizing and looking into the circumstances concerning Rick's treatment the last couple months of his life.

Rick was adopted and his adopted parents had two children of their own and Greg is looking for them so he can get permission to bring Rick's remains returned to the US for burial in a National Cemetery.

Stanley Vance Plowman, BHS 1947

Stanley Vance Plowman, BHS 1947
1929 - 2013

Stanley Vance Plowman. (84) of Moscow, ID died peacefully the evening of July 25, 2013 at Avalon Care Center near Moscow, Idaho. He was surrounded by family and serenaded for 3 hours with beautiful harp music provided by a loved friend.

Stan was born in Burbank, California on May 17, 1929 to Paul Plowman and Susan Fulton Plowman as the third child following elder sisters Katie and Mary Jo. He grew up in Burbank and attended Burbank schools. He continued his education at Glendale College and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Stan married Joan Zinniger on December 29, 1949 in Burbank. Stan and Joan's early family years with three children were in the San Fernando Valley and Santa Maria. With three teenagers in tow, they'd had enough of city life, so they moved to a small town to operate their marina on Trinity Lake in Trinity Center. A long-term friend said they arrived in Trinity with stars in their eyes and dreams in their heads, and the city folk were thrown into realities of bears on the deck, mountain lions stalking their dog, and wind storms that wreaked havoc with the marina. They overcame all challenges and became valued members of the community.

An unexpected fourth child was born and raised on the marina and became the source of entertainment for everyone as they came to boat.Stan's exploratory nature carried him through interesting and fun employment: cabinet maker for Hollywood movie star homes, Lockheed supervisor that controlled the missile spare parts at Vandenberg Air Force Base, owner of Recreation Plus Marina in partnership with his brother-in-law Ted Zinniger. He served as a member on the Trinity Center Community Service Board of Directors, and completed his career as a Trinity County Supervisor for three terms. Concurrently he served the State of California as a member of the Water Control and Air Quality Control Boards.

Stan's hobbies included nature photography, lapidary jewelry making, custom woodworking, target shooting, and a love for old cars which led to the restoration of his 1956 Jaguar roadster convertible. In retirement he and Joan enjoyed travelling and took trips to many locations in the Western and Eastern United States, Mexico, and Canada often via RV. They took an Alaskan cruise up the Inland Passage with his sisters and a 50th anniversary cruise of the Hawaiian Islands. Stan's most memorable trip was to England and Scotland researching his heritage.

Stan was a very honorable man. His sense of humor always surrounded his family, friends and constituents. He used his humorous nature to entertain, to show love, to diffuse stressful situations, and mostly for sheer fun.

He is survived by Joan, wife of 64 years, sister Mary Jo Connell, sons Steve and Tom, daughters Jan Tuggle and Kate Barnes, numerous grandchildren and one great grandchild. Joan will continue to reside at their home and would welcome hearing from you at 1943 Damen Street, Moscow, ID 83843.

Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday August 17, 2013 at the Trinity Center Community Church in Trinity Center, California. Refreshments will be served. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA is caring for the family. Stan's choice for memorial donations would be your honoring him by sending a gift to the charity of your choice . Judith Ann Weatherwax Burke, BHS 1958

Judith Ann Weatherwax Burke, BHS 1958

Our beloved mother, and our father's wife of 51 years, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013. Her husband and two daughters were at her side when she left the world she loved and enriched. Born in April 1940 in Glendale, Calif., Judy was the oldest of three sisters, with whom she was very close and for decades shared an annual "three-sisters vacation" at the Little Sister Resort in Sister Bay, Wis. These trips brought her great joy and were the highlight of her year as they were filled with late night laughter, endless craft projects and friendly competitions at the paintball shooting range or baseball batting cages.

Our parents met in high school when they were 15 years old. They married on July 28, 1962, and settled in San Luis Obispo in 1968, where they raised their family and watched their daughters grow up in the community they loved. Mom and Dad's life of 58 years together included many wonderful family vacations, lots of movies and Sunday crosswords, and in recent years, unforgettable world travels.

Our mother's talents and accomplishments and examples of her kind nature cannot possibly be condensed into a short sketch such as this; however, her passion for designing and making beautiful quilts, her amazing piano playing, the trips she took around the world with our dad, and the pride she felt for her daughter's and grandchildren's achievements would be the starting point of outlining what was important to her.

Mom was also a lifelong learner - after her children were grown, she went back to school. After finishing her bachelor's degree at Stephens College, she continued on to earn two master's degrees from Skidmore College. Our mother was an active member in her community and enriched the lives of others through service with the Monday Club, Civic Ballet Performing Arts Center, Law Wives Group, and many other volunteer positions throughout the years.

Judy leaves behind her husband, Jeffrey Burke; two daughters, Brooksley (Burke) Williams and Meredith (Burke) Lawler, sisters, Marjorie Baldwin and Nancy Carlson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Lee and Robert Chandler Weatherwax.

As our mother was especially passionate about women's education and its vital role in shaping young women to become well-rounded, compassionate members of their community, contributions in her memory can be made to your favorite charity that supports education or the arts. Or, in lieu of a charitable contribution, consider also simply "paying it forward" with an act of kindness toward another, as our mother did on a regular basis. She knew how far an encouraging word and a warm smile could travel, and it would bring us great comfort to know her legacy of kindness, good will, and wonderful humor will endure.

Burbanker Dies As Car Falls 1,000 Feet Off Cliff

A station wagon lacking tire chains dove 1,000 feet off an icy mountain road, killing a 16-year-old Burbank youth and seriously injuring two companions during the weekend.

A passenger, David Wooduff, 15, managed to claw his way up the steep canyon while suffering broken ribs and was able to notify authorities at a nearby probation camp.

A helicopter rescue team was dispatched by the U.S. Forest Service and rangers airlifted Edward Kilduff, 16, to County USC Medical Center. The Burbank youth, thrown clear of the wreckage, died a short time later of massive head injuries. Kilduff was a Burbank High senior.

The driver of the car, Mark Draper, 17, was extricated by rescue workers and airlifted to Palmdale General Hospital.

A Highway Patrolman said the youths had driven past a point on the Angeles Crest Highway where tire chains were advised because of icy conditions. Wooduff is a Burbank High junior.
