Marian E. Jacobs, 84 of New Era, passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 in New Era. She was born April 23, 1929 in Long Beach, Calif., to Cushman “Davis” Jones and Marian L. Sandborn Jones.
Marian was raised in Burbank, Calif., and graduated from Burbank High School. She lived in several different cities in southern California............
She married Harold “Jake” Jacobs Aug. 7, 1948. The Jacobs came to Oceana County, to Mears in 1977. They opened the Wooden Nickel Restaurant in Shelby and operated it from 1978 to 1983. Jake passed away June 2, 1996.
Mrs. Jacobs was also a cook with Oceana Head Start for several years. Some of her joys in life were singing and cooking and she was a movie buff. She sang in operetta’s in high school and later sang many solo’s and duets and in trios. She enjoyed cooking for the Boy Scouts. Marian was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hart................
Marian is survived by her children, Tassie Jacobs, George Jacobs, Mark (Cheryl) Jacobs and Edine Bronold; her grandchildren, Trevor Jacobs, Christina (John) Slachter, Debbie Sheppard, Yale Jacobs, Douglas Sheppard, Matthew (Amber) Sheppard and Laura Sheppard; and 12 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Marian was also preceded in death by her grandson, Jason Jacobs; and great-grandson, Johnathan Slachter............
The funeral service for Mrs. Jacobs was 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hart. Interment was in Benona Township Cemetery. You may leave a message for the family at www.harrisfhome.com. Arrangements were by Harris Funeral Home in Shelby.........
