Mr. Lawrence, 35, succumbed in the Queen of Angels Hospital where he had been confined since the first week of December.
The deceased joined the staff of Burbank High School in September, 1950, as an English teacher. He was active in numerous school functions and was advisor for the annual yearbook. He was intensely interested in high school and youth activities.
Gerald Ogborn, principal of Burbank High School, said that "Mr. Lawrence was an excellent staff member and personal friend. He was loved by the entire school body and his passing has come as a shock to all of us."
Born in Chicago on April 7, 1918, the deceased attended school in that city before enlisting in the United States Marines in 1940. Following his discharged in November 1945, Lawrence resumed his studies, earning his Bachelor of Science Degree from Northern Illinois State Teachers College in 1947. He later attended Northwestern University prior to accepting a teaching position with the Escondido school system.
Mr. Mortimer is survived by his widow, Ada, and three small children, Nancy, Ricky and 9-months old baby, Carol Ann; and his parents who live in Chicago. The deceased resided with his family at 7735 Ostrom Ave., in Van Nuys.
The remains will be forwarded to Chicago for funeral services and burial.
