Marylyn Helen Groth Hatch, BHS 1954

Marylyn Helen Hatch, 67, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at her home in Moorpark, after 42 years with increasingly severe symptoms and medication side effects of mixed connective tissue disease.

Marylyn was born on Aug. 27, 1936, in Minneapolis, Minn., the first daughter of Ingvar "Andy" and Helen Groth. In 1948, she moved to Tucson, Ariz., and in 1950, she moved to Burbank, Calif. She graduated from Burbank High School in 1954 and married her husband in 1957.

She became a full-time mother and homemaker, moving to Thousand Oaks from Canoga Park in 1964 with her three oldest children. Three more children made for a busy life of raising her children, volunteering at their schools and fitting in classes in many types of crafts, dancing and needlework that she so enjoyed.

Although a private person, she enjoyed the company of the many people she met in the neighborhood, her classes, Mothers of Twins Club and folk-dancing clubs. In 1986, she moved to Moorpark, where she decorated the home she loved so much and filled it with her beautiful needlework and crafts. She enjoyed reading mystery novels and was able to volunteer at Los Robles Hospital in the late '80s and much of the '90s.

With her symptoms under better control, she and her husband were able to do the traveling that they both loved. She continued her craft class at the Simi Senior Center until 2000 and enjoyed going to lunch with her friends from Spanish class until a year ago.

She will be missed by her husband of 46 years, Larry D. Hatch. He cherished her love, friendship and unfailing support. She is also survived by her two sons, Kirk and Derek Hatch, both of San Diego, Calif.; four daughters, Wendy Johnston and Erin Brown of Simi Valley, Jill Hatch of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Glynis Hatch of Camarillo; two sons-in-law, Robert Johnston and Steve Brown of Simi Valley; three granddaughters, Kelsey and Kailey Johnston and Jordyn Brown; and two grandsons, Cameron Johnston and Derek's son, Kier.

Funeral arrangements are private. Interment will be at Pierce Bros. Valley Oaks in Westlake Village.
