San Diego Union-Tribune, The (CA) - Wednesday, September 26, 2007
Valdene 'Val' Vanote passed away peacefully on September 14, 2007, in the home of her long-time sweetheart, James McCamey. It was her faith in God and positive spirit that allowed her to remain with us until this time.
She was born on March 16, 1930, in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Burbank High School and then married Bert A. Anderson, Jr. They eventually made San Diego their home. Being the wife of the minister of St. Andrew's by the Sea Episcopal Church in Pacific Beach, coupled with raising three sons, kept her quite busy. This was also the start of many life-long friendships.
Valdene continued her education by attending San Diego State and receiving her degree in the mid 1970s. She then started her 20-year career at Kaiser, working as a counselor. Many of her patients benefited from her special gift of being a good listener, and kept in touch even after her retirement. She will be remembered for her compassion, generosity and positive outlook on life. She truly was one in a million and lived life with gusto. She always made you feel unique and special. She will be missed.
Valdene is survived by her sons, Bert Axel Anderson III (Dianna), Michael Van Note Anderson (Tracy) and John Arthur Anderson, all of San Diego; her grandchildren, Autumn, Christian, Lauren, Todd, Alan and Sarah; her sisters Vonnie Van Note of Malibu, and Vanette Van Note of Sweden.
There will be a Memorial Mass at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 29, 2007, at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 1945 Illion Street, San Diego, with a reception to follow. In a private ceremony, her ashes will be scattered at sea. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your favorite charity. Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com
