Jana Lucille Jordan Guest, BHS 1970

Jana Lucille Jordan Guest, BHS ‘70

September 25, 1952 ~ January 29, 2021

Jana Jordan Guest, passed away on Friday night, January 29, 2021, at her home in Pahrump, Nevada, after a short illness of six weeks. Her loving partner, John Deahl (BHS '69), was with her when she passed away.

When a Senior at BHS in 1969/1970 Jana was Head Majorette with the Band and Drill Team. Jana's first two years of college were at the University of Arizona in Tucson, and her last two years were at USC where she graduated.

Jana grew up the youngest of three, with her older brothers, Jeffrey Jordan (BHS '65), and Judd Jordan (BHS '69). She attended Emerson Elementary, John Muir Junior High, and Burbank High School, graduating in 1970. She worked in the 1970's and 1980's in Glendale as a Bank Vice President, P.R. Director of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce, and in her own P.R. business. In 1990 she moved from Burbank to Ridgecrest, CA with her former husband. About 2013 she moved from Ridgecrest to Pahrump, Nevada.

The first photo is Jana with her older brothers, Jeffrey on the left and Judd on the right, with their mother, Adele Jordan, who is now 96 years, who also lives in Pahrump. The second photo is Jana with her partner, John Deahl.

Jana Jordan Guest, 1952-2021

A memorial will be held on March 27, 2021, 12:00 to 3:00, in Pahrump, NV, at the VFW Post 10054, located at 4651 Homestead Road, Pahrump, Nevada.

Jana passed on 1/29/2021. She lived in Pahrump, NV, a beautiful desert community about 60 miles outside of Las Vegas with her best friend and partner John Deahl.

When Jordan's home was hit by a landslide in 1962 their neighbors pitched in to remove over 5 feet of mud from the house, and the Salvation Army provided much needed assistance to the family. Thus began Jana's lifelong passion for aiding others. She always kept the Salvation Army close to her heart and was on the board of directors at two different local Corps Community Centers.

Raised in Burbank, California by her parents, Joe and Adele, and her two older brothers, Jeffery and Judd, Jana led a wonderful life that was full of close friends, excitement, and travel which included 20+ different countries.

She graduated from Burbank High School in 1970, then went on to be a 3rd generation graduate of USC. Jana is survived by her mother Adele, brothers Jeffery and Judd and their families, and a multitude of friends. She was married to Navy Commander (Ret.) Lawrence (Buck) Guest for 28 years and kept a close friendship with him, his family and other in-laws.

What I'll miss most about Jana is her beautiful smile, her loving heart, and her intense passion for helping others. She continually assisted those around her and quite often those she didn't know, such as sending unsolicited care packages to soldiers stationed overseas, anonymously paying for groceries and meals, funding a student's trip to Washington D.C., and sponsoring a high school senior that was denied graduation parties because of the coronavirus lockdown. She was always thinking of a new way to help someone, and most often awoke to the thought of "how can I brighten someone's day today?"

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Salvation Army or Rotary.

Susan Caggiano DiSalvo, BHS 1971

Susan Caggiano DiSalvo, BHS 1971

We lost classmate Susan (Sue) Caggiano DiSalvo this past August to cancer. She had three children and was living in Reno with her husband.  She had a very long career with Southwest Airlines. This is another devastating loss. 💔

Here is a lovely FaceBook post from her daughter:

I love you so much, Mom. You left life without any regrets, and surrounded by the many people that love you. There was no one who met you and didn't fall in love with you. I'm so happy you were there for my wedding and to give me strength and love for my entire life. We all love you and miss you so much, but you gave so much love. You'll be with me all the time, and hey, who knows. I might even become a gardener after this. Help me with that one, though. I'll need the assistance.

Thank you, Mama. ❤

James Morley Gibson Sr., BHS 1950

James Morley Gibson Sr. will be remembered as a big man with a big personality. Jim passed away December 7, 2020 just days from his 89th birthday, which gives us pause to celebrate the many years he has shared with us. Jim was born December 16, 1931 in Glendale to Carl and Cleo Gibson. Jim was the younger of two children and was preceded in death by his elder brother, Carl Reeves Gibson Jr. On July 26, 1952, Jim married the love of his life, Joyce Marie Petersen, whom he had met at Burbank High School. They were married and lived in Burbank for 51 years before she preceded him in death on May 27, 2003.

Jim and Joyce are survived by their three children and spouses: Jim M. Gibson Jr. and wife Anne, Julie Kropf and husband Russ, and Janis Dickey and husband Brad; their six grandchildren: Carrie Hibbard and husband Don, Kristy Willer and husband John, Jennifer and Jaqi Gibson, Kyle Dickey and wife Megan, and Emily Dickey; and their two great-grandchildren, Tim and Brandice Hibbard.

In 1953 and 1954, Jim served as a Sergeant in the Army’s 38th Infantry Regiment during active duty in Korea, earning a Purple Heart, following a celebrated football career at Burbank High School, Glendale College, USC, and with the Army; even receiving an invitation to play professional football with the N.Y. Giants. Jim was a lifelong fan of USC football, a team he once called home as offensive tackle number 55. What few knew about Jim was that he was destined to be a member of the USC family; his middle name, Morley, was given to him honoring the famous 1925 running back Morley Drury. If Jim was not watching USC football, he could be found in his recliner watching golf, basketball and other sports.

Jim had a successful 40-year career with the city of Burbank as a police officer. He graduated from the academy in 1955 and rose through the ranks in the Burbank Police Department from patrolman to investigator, detective, sergeant, lieutenant and eventually to Captain of the BPD before his retirement in January 1995.

Jim and Joyce enjoyed the small-town feel of Burbank, the city in which they raised their family. Jim was a member of the Burbank Noon Kiwanis club, where he served as club president in 1989-90, as Lt. Governor of Division 16 in 1992-93 and was named Kiwanian of the year in 1996. Jim was an avid golfer and loved to hit the links with friends and his son-in-law Brad. As a young officer Jim played basketball with the BPOA and as his family grew he transferred his love of basketball to watching his grandchildren Jaqi and Kyle play, practically never missing a game.

Jim enjoyed traveling. He and Joyce loved to visit the National Parks and traversed the United States in their motor home several times. As a young family, Jim, Joyce and children would spend summer vacations camping at the beach or at the family’s favorite, Lake Tahoe. As empty nesters Jim and Joyce continued to camp with their Lazydays club or vacation at San Clemente at their timeshare.

Jim will be missed by many but never forgotten by his family and friends who will remember a serious man who could make you laugh with his silly antics. Farewell and Godspeed, Jim.

Condolences can be sent to “Gibson” at 2011 Jamestown Way, Oxnard, CA 93035
