Nellie R. Pierce, September 21, 1906 – November 22, 1996

Nellie Ruth Pierce, 90, of Patterson died Friday at Del Puerto Hospital. Mrs. Pierce was a native of Blachly, Oregon. She lived in Patterson one year. She had retired after a career as a licensed vocational nurse.

She is survived by her children, David Martin of Pleasanton and Edward Martin of Parsons, Tennessee; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Private services, Hillview Funeral Chapel, Patterson, in charge of arrangements

Crypt side services for Plebeo “Jack” Imbruglia, 88, of Fresno, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hollywood Memorial Park in Hollywood, California. Mr. Imbruglia, a retired salesman for Carnation Foods Company, died Saturday, February 8, 1997. 

Remembrances may be sent to the Cancer Center at Saint Agnes Hospital, 1303 E. Herndon Ave., Fresno 93720. Whitehurst Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Stanley A. Cornutt, Aircraft and engine repairer

YERINGTON - Stanley Adams Cornutt, 85, died August 24, 1992, at White Pine Care Center, East Ely, of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was born September 5, 1906, in Chadwick Ranch, midway between Myrtle Creek and Riddle, Oregon. He moved to Smith Valley in 1956 from Bridgeport, California.

Cornutt attended schools in Oregon until 1922, when he moved to Southern California. He graduated from Burbank High School in 1924. He worked for Union Oil Company until 1927, and then went into the service station business until 1934, when he went into automotive machine trade.  

Later he worked as an aircraft engine mechanic instructor with Aero Industries Technical Institute, a private firm under contract to the Army Air Corps. He spent most of the war years there. He attended Oregon State College, Corvallis for two years and established a mechanics school at Corvallis Airport, teaching there until 1948.

He and his late brother, Wilfred, built a sawmill business in Bridgeport and operated it until 1956, when it burned. In Smith Valley, Cornutt worked as an equipment operator for two years and worked at Anaconda Copper Corp, as a mechanic, machinist and truck driver, retiring in 1972. He also worked at Leviathan Sulphur Mine and did aircraft and engine repair work, at the Yerington Airport, quitting in 1990 for health reasons.

Cornutt was a member of Mason Valley Lodge 34 I.O.O.F., Chapter 1099, A.R.R.P,, Yerington Senior Citizens, Civil Air Patrol and Lion County Search and Rescue, He helped established the Yerington Senior Center.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Lewis, Sr. and one brother. Surviving are his widow, Nevila of Yerington; son Daniel of Ely; and four grandchildren.  A memorial service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Community Methodist Church.

Cremation is under the direction of Wilson-Bates Mortuary, Ely. Private inurnment will be later. A memorial is being established with Lou Gehrig’s disease, 21021 Ventura Blvd., Suite 321, Woodland Hills, California, 91364

Dr. Audrey M. Parker, BHS 1924

Audrey M. Parker died December 30, 2002, in San Diego. She was 95, and lived a life well in advance of her times. Dr. Parker was born November 7, 1907, in Des Moines, Iowa, the oldest child of Leslie and Lura Parker. She was raised in Southern California. She graduated Occidental College in 1929, and afterward taught fourth grade in Glendale.

She joined the Navy as a lieutenant in 1943. She served as assistant to the superintendent of aviation training in Jacksonville, Fla., and was commended upon her discharge in 1946. In 1948, she took a position as dean of women at Bethany College in West Virginia. She then moved to Ohio Wesleyan University, where she served as dean of women from 1949 to 1963. Dr. Parker earned her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1955. Soon after, she spent a year in Scandinavia studying women's education. Dr. Parker returned to California in 1963, as dean of women at California Western University. She retired in the mid-1970s. Dr. Parker was a member of the San Diego Historical Society and the American Association of University Women.

She traveled extensively and spent time with many close friends and family. Dr. Parker is survived by her niece, Jeni Booth; nephews, Bruce Parker and David Parker; sister-in-law Janet Parker; great-nieces Sarah Lewis, Claire Chapman, Laurie Parker and Aimee Booth; great-nephews Darren Parker, Brent Parker and Kenny Booth; and two great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Parker; nephew Gary Parker; and great-nephew Seth Parker. At Dr. Parker's request, no services were held.

Mildred F. Clint, 81, died Monday, July 20, 1987, in Glendale, California. Born in Glendale, she lived in Burbank for seventy years. She was a piano-organ music teacher for fifty years; charter member of the Burbank Community Concert Association; Past President of Zonta and a member of the Glendale Music Teachers Association.

Mrs. Clint is survived by a daughter, Carole Steen of Burbank; sister, Virginia Short of Castaic; brother, John Overton of Lynnwood, Washington; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Friday, July 24, at the First United Methodist Church of Burbank. Burial was at Grand View Memorial Park, Glendale, California. The Eckerman-Heisman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Francis Engle Allen died Jan. 18, 2005. He was 98.

Mr. Allen was born June 18, 1906 and lived in Burbank for 90 years.

Allen is survived by his daughter, Norma Pienzi; grandchildren Brad Olsen and Pamela Nigh; great grandchildren Tawny and Cheryl Olsen, Christi, Jennifer and Kevin Nigh.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, 700 N. Glenoaks Ave.

Interment is private. Memorial contributions can be made to City of Hope, 1500 E. Duarte Road, Duarte, CA., 91010 or the American Diabetes Assn., 3460 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 900, Los Angeles, CA., 90010.
