SALINAS – Max Stanley Byers, 55, died Saturday, December 24, 2005, at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. He was born on February 6, 1950. He was a longtime horticulture student at Monterey Peninsula College.

Services; 4 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2006, at the Life Science Building at MPC, 980 Fremont Street, Monterey. Arrangements; Healey Mortuary, 405 North Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Lesta Isabelle Faxon, 94, of Cambria died Monday, March 30, 1998, at a San Luis Obispo hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Reis Chapel in Cayucos, the Rev. Walter Robie officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Cambria Community Cemetery.

Mrs. Faxon was born April 8, 1905, in El Monte and was raised and educated in Burbank. She attended UCLA with a major in general education. In 1923 she married Lee Buffington who preceded her in death in 1966. She married Webster Faxon in 1979, he died in 1991. Mrs. Faxon worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Erwin Pratt in Burbank for 20 years. She had been a resident of Cambria since 1964.

Among her interests were fancy handwork and beading and gardening. She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge No. 352 of Burbank and the Native Daughters of the Golden West of Cambria.

She is survived by a son, David L. Buffington of Kerrville, Texas; a daughter, Marjorie Maine of Santa Clara; grandsons Forest Buffington of Gallup, N.M. and Mark Maine of Yorba Linda, granddaughters Kathy Ruess of Albuquerque, N.M., and Marcia Jordan of Elgin, Texas; and nine great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Reis Chapel in Cayucos.

Donald Marsh Forker, Magee- Born July 6, 1923 in Burbank, California. Donald Marsh Forker was the second son of Donald and Florence Elizabeth Podmore Forker. Raised during The Great Depression. Don graduated from Burbank High School in June 1941 and attended Pasadena Junior College until he entered the Tenth (10th) Mountain Division during World War II.

Assigned to Company B, 86th Mountain Infantry Division, he trained at Camp Hale, Colorado for eighteen months and Camp Swift, Texas for five months, ultimately landing in Naples, Italy on Christmas Eve, 1944. Entering combat January 8, 1945, Don participated in the Battle of Riva Ridge, Italy, receiving a Bronze Star for his service. Discharged on November 29, 1945, Don married Jane Humphrey on June 20, 1947. They would have celebrated sixty-five years of marriage this June. They had two children, Linda Diane Forker Bulgar and Robert Randall Forker.

Gloria Lyn Metcalf passed away due to complications from breast cancer on September 19th at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. She was 62. Born in Glendale, California, she lived there through most of her young years. As a person with great morals, she was loved very much by her family and the people she worked with and for. She was a RN at Memorial Medical Center.

Preceded in death by her husband John Metcalf. She is survived by her children, Cobbie Gurule, Dee Metcalf, and Robin Miller; brother, Lester Mischke; grandchildren, Annie Metcalf, Tyler Miller, Sage Miller, Katie Gurule, Ryan Gurule, and Jason Miller; dog, Dusty. Small family services for her were held September 26th.
