Phillis M. Ferguson Cooper, BHS 1947

1929 - 2015, Phillis Cooper, age 85, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015. She was born February 28, 1929 in Ashville, NC and moved with her family to Burbank, CA in 1944. 


After graduating from Burbank High School, Phyllis worked at Librascope in Glendale, CA. She married her husband, Keith, in 1945. They lived in Burbank for many years with their two children. After retiring from Lockheed Martin, Phyllis moved with her family to Valencia. 

She enjoyed many happy years with her children, grandchildren, neighbors, and members of her church, Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church. 

She is survived by her daughter, Shawn; her son-in-law, Paul; her son, Michael; her grandchildren: Corey Anne Cooper and Elizabeth Marie Anne Cooper, Kevin and Lindsay Ashton.

A Visitation and Rosary was held Thursday, February 5, 2015 at St. Nicholas of Myra Church in Encino, CA. Mass of the Resurrection was held at 10:30am on Friday, February 6 at St Nicholas of Myra Church, with a committal following at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills, CA.Arrangements entrusted to the care of Angeleno Mortuary in Van Nuys, CA (818-778-1788).

Marlan Andrew Guiliacci, BHS 1951

Marlan Andrew Guiliacci, BHS 1951................... Marlan Andrew Guiliacci passed away on November 2014. He had resided in Burbank for 68 years. He was born April 5, 1933 in Gillespie, Illinois the son of Sesto and Lillian (Johnson) Guiliacci. They moved to Burbank in 1946. Marlan graduated from Burbank High School in 1951. He joined the Navy in 1951 during the Korean War, and served proudly on the U.S.S. Ticonderoga. ................ In November 1974 Marlan married the love of his life, Judy Hurst. As a painting contractor Andrews Painting Company) for 35 plus years, he made friends with evert job. He was truly a caring man and put so much effort into making sure he created a relationship with every client, and did"t just "complete a project". Marlan was active in his church and community. He had logged thousands of volunteer hours. He volunteered for the Burbank Police Department, and Joslyn Adult Center. He also helped the RSVP Program, by picking up pastries and delivering them for the Mary Stoica Cafe. For the past fours years he led the "One Warm Coat Drive" for Veterans. ..................Marlan is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy; two daughters, Marla Goodwyn, and Tracy Andrews; two sons, Brian Andrews, and Todd Randall. He was the proud grandfather to 5 grandsons, Spencer Andrews, Marlan, Joshua, and CodyPette, and Taylor and Connor Goodwyn. Granddaughter-in-law, Brittany Andrews, is the mother of his first great-grandson, Oliver Andrews. He is also survived by brother, Ron Randall, step-parents, Neda Guiliacci and Rudy Triana, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Robert S. Guiliacci.

Frederick Stephen Brandt, BHS 1947---------------------- Mr. Frederick Stephen Brandt age 86 of Canton, Ga died on Thursday February 12, 2015. Celebration of life will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday February 19, 2015 at the Sixes United Methodist Church. ------------------- Mr. Brandt began his career at age 16 with Ralphs Grocery Company as a box boy. He advanced through the ranks over his 50 year career to become Vice President and sit on the Board of Directors. -------------------------He is survived by his wife, Dixie Brandt, Canton, GA , Son, Jerry Stephen Brandt, Arroyo Grande, CA , Daughters & son-in-law Darcie Brandt, Canton, GA and Cynthia & Eric Middleton, Canton, GA, Grandchildren Chandler Stephen Middleton and Spencer Andrew Middleton, Also Survive. ----------------------He was a Wonderful; Husband, Father, and Grandfather. Joyce Carlson Glenn, BHS 1957

Joyce Carlson/Maddox/Glenn passed away due to complications from diabetes on March 13, 2015, at the age of 75, in the care of the Irvine Kaiser-Permanente Hospital. She is survived by her ex-husband Don Maddox, husband Tom Glenn, brother and sister-in-law Larry and Joy Carlson, the family of her first daughter Becky Brewer, the family of her second daughter Jennifer Maddox and the family of her son Tim Maddox. ------------------------- Joyce was born on December 26 th, 1939 in Burbank, California, to Marie Louise Carlson and Everett Carlson. She graduated from Burbank High School in 1957 and went on to successfully pursue a nursing degree from Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital. Joyce was a Critical Care Nurse at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, California, for over 20 years and retired as a hospice nurse in 2013. -------------------------
Joyce is remembered as a vivacious and spirited soul, known for her strong will and compassionate care. In her later years, Joyce traveled to Israel and Africa on medical missions, extending the experience of her years of service to the most needy in the world. She also loved to dote on her grandchildren and spend long days relaxing at the beach. ------------------------- A memorial service is planned for later this year. Katherine E. Ehrhart, 75, died March 25, 1979 at a Burbank hospital. She was born in Dubuque, Iowa and was a Burbank resident for 60 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Burbank and the Y's Menettes of the Burbank YMCA. She graduated from Burbank High School in 1921.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas; one daughter, Janet E. Glover of Burbank; one Brother, John Gisel of Burbank; and one sister May Alexander of National City, California.

 Services and interment are private. Eckerman-Heisman Funeral Service, directors.

Age 79, died Wednesday, February 4, 2015. She was born to the late Rose and Elias Deeb in Kooba, Lebanon. Libby graduated from Burbank High School and excelled in the Dental Assisting Program she attended.

She was married to Don Jacob and had a son, Derek. Both predeceased her. She was a loving sister and aunt and admired and loved by everyone who knew her. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the St. Michaels Antiochian Orthodox Church. VALLEY FUNERAL HOME

Jerry Lee Koory, BHS 1947

Jerry Lee Koory passed away peacefully on February 7, 2015 at his home in Pismo Beach. Jerry was born in August, 1930 in David City, Nebraska, the son of Lillian Faytinger and Bernard Marquis. Jerry's parents divorced and when Jerry was nine he moved with his mother to Burbank where they lived with his grandparents, Fred and Mary Faytinger. When his mother remarried in 1941, Jerry was adopted by his stepfather Amal Koory. -------------Jerry graduated from Burbank High School in 1947; he then attended Glendale Junior College for two years before transferring to UC Santa Barbara. He graduated from UCSB in 1951 with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts. After college, Jerry was drafted and spent 21 months in the Army. Jerry enrolled at graduate school at the University of Southern California, and while attending USC he met his future wife, Viola Di Nuzzi. -------------In 1956, Jerry worked for System Development Corporation where he learned computer programming and taught the new hires. Jerry and Viola married in 1958 and spent their honeymoon in Palm Springs and Las Vegas. They lived in their first home on Big Rock Drive in Malibu. In 1960, their daughter Mary Ann was born. Jerry was transferred and the family moved to Falls Church, Virginia where their son Louis was born in 1962. The Koory family moved back to California in 1964 where they lived at their family home on Parthenia Street in Northridge. Jerry continued his career in data processing and information systems working for Planning Research Corporation, HW Systems, The Rand Corporation and Ticor, before retiring in 1992. ----------------In 1994, Jerry and Viola moved to Avila Beach. In retirement, Jerry volunteered for local organizations including the San Luis Obispo Literacy Council and the Grand Jury. In 1999, Jerry and Viola moved to Pismo Beach where Jerry played Senior Softball and was an active member of the Pismo Beach Basin Street Regulars Jazz Club. Jerry handled badge sales for the annual jazz Jubilee by the Sea for several years. -----------Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Viola Koory; his daughter, MaryAnn Koory and his son-in-law, Christopher Meehan; his son, Louis Koory; his grandchildren: Blair Meehan, Anna Meehan and Rocco Koory; his sister, Mary Fry and his niece, Roberta Derrick. The family wishes to express their thanks to all of the doctors who took such good care of Jerry and the staff at the Kidney Dialysis Center of Pismo Beach for their caring attention during his years of dialysis there. Mary Lou Becker Miller, BHS 1945

Mary Lou Miller April 6, 1927 - December 27, 2014 Mary Lou Miller (nee Becker) passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and granddaughter on Saturday, December 27, 2014. She was 87 years old. Mary Lou was born April 6, 1927 in Oakland, PA, the eldest daughter of the late John-Frederick Becker and Anna Sophia Becker. Together with her family, she relocated to California, settling in Burbank in 1943. Mary Lou was a 1945 graduate of Burbank High School. She married the love of her life, Harold Miller in 1949. The couple settled in Burbank for all of their 65 years together, where they also raised their only son, Mark. Mary Lou was most recently employed by the Burbank Unified School District as a teacher's aide, a position she very much enjoyed. Her interests included crafting, traveling (including to her favorite Sedona, Arizona), rescuing desert tortoises and spending time with her family – most especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved husband, Harold, son Mark and daughter-in-law Susan (nee Wilkinson). Mary Lou
was also grandmother to Sarah Morphew (Alan), Rachel Miller, Jacqueline Vinci (Michael, Jr.), Megan Miller, and great-grandmother to Dylan Morphew and Michael Vinci III. She leaves behind her sister, Lois Taron, brother-in-law Ralph Miller (Patricia) and sister-in-law Eldora Longshore, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary Lou was a joy in her family's life and she will be dearly missed. A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Belmont Village, 455 E. Angeleno Ave., Burbank, CA 91501 in the Town Hall. In lieu of flowers the family has established a memorial in Mary Lou's name and requests donations be made to St. Paul's First Lutheran School, c/o 5244 Tujunga Ave., North Hollywood, CA 91601.
