Burbank Resident Dies in Accident on Freeway
A 26-year-old Burbank man was killed yesterday morning when he was ejected from his sports car after a wheel came off and the vehicle overturned at the junction of the San Diego and Harbor Freeways in Carson authorities reported.
The California Highway Patrol identified him as Raymond James Moss of 530 Rosemary Lane.
A spokesman for the CHP said Moss was south- bound on the San Diego Freeways when the left rear tire of his car came off. As a result, the vehicle swerved into a guard overturned and the impact ejected Moss out of the vehicle, the spokesman said. The auto then caught on fire and was engulfed in flames, closing down two lanes of the freeway.
Moss was taken to Harbor General but he was declared dead on arrival, the spokesman said.

Miles Michael Stanton
July 23, 1944 - December 6, 2018
Miles, born in St. Louis, MO, on July 23, 1944, moved with his family to San Bernardino, CA, in 1945. The family later moved to Burbank, CA, and Miles graduated in 1963 from Burbank High School, where he lettered in track and field. He went on to graduate from California State University, Los Angeles, where he also lettered in track and field, as well as gymnastics.
He was a faculty member of Hoover High, Glendale, for 34 years, where he taught graphic arts, history, and other subjects, and coached the cross-country and track and field teams. During this time, he also served in the USAF Reserve.
An avid sportsman, Miles participated in marathons, horseback-riding, and skiing. He also drove tour buses for ski groups and sports teams, both collegiate and professional. He lived in Playa del Rey for more than 20 years, overlooking Marina del Rey, where he could see the crew teams that he sometimes drove practicing in the channel. The Loyola Marymount crew team has named one of their boats Miles Stanton.
Miles was preceded in death by his parents, James Dewey Stanton and Ilo Rose Emerson Stanton. He leaves behind his older brother, James William Stanton and sister-in-law Sandra S. Stanton; his nephew and niece, J. Michael Stanton and Jill M. Stanton; four great nephews and nieces; and many dear friends, all of whom miss him greatly. NOTE: Miles was married twice but did not have any children. According to a couple of classmates Miles died of causes related to cancer, but it was not the cancer that killed him. Most cancer patients are in a lot of pain and suffering and their families also suffer. So Miles decided to go out on his terms and took his own life according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. Cause of death Suicide, Gunshot Wound To Head.
He is missed by his family and friends and fellow classmates who remember his good looks, great smile and all around great guy. May he rest in peace!
Edward Lee Voliva, BHS 1965
May 14, 1947 - September 2, 2009
Edward Lee Voliva was born on May 14, 1947, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Voliva of 3001 Trudi Lane, Burbank, California. He was a 1965 graduate of Burbank High School. After graduating from Burbank High he entered the United States Air Force where he became a Sergeant and was stationed on duty at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base in Thailand.
Ed will be missed by his family , friends and fellow BHS classmates. Rest In Peace! No other details at this time.
Nicola Trotta, BHS 1957
Nicola Trotta, 49, died June 5, 1988 in San Juan Capistrano, California. A 1957 graduate of Burbank High School, Trotta worked as a deli manager at Ralphs Supermarket in Laguna.
He is survived by his parents, Frank and Teresa Trotta of Burbank, California; his wife, Ann; daughters, Linda, Carolyn and Patti Trotta; son, Frank Trotta; sister, Diana Paolone of Burbank; and brother, Dante Trotta.
Graveside services were held yesterday at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, Mission Hills, California. Arrangements were handled by O'Connor of Laguna Hills Mortuary.

Nancy Black McKibbin Bostdorff
December 27, 1948 - April 13, 2019
Nancy Black McKibbin Bostdorff passed away at her home in Healdsburg, California after a short illness with cancer on April 13, 2019.
Nancy was born December 27, 1948, in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in Burbank with her three younger sisters, Linda, Mary and Terry.
After graduation from Burbank High School in 1966, she was employed as an Engineer with the Pacific Telephone Company until her retirement.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Lisa, and three sisters.
Mary Black wrote, "I am heartbroken. My sister, Nancy, passed away on Saturday, April 13. She cherished her daughter, Lisa, and was a devoted caregiver to her many dogs. A world traveler, she was always learning and curious. My sisters and I wish her peace and growth on her journey in this next stage of life."
Scott Allen Boyd
July 23, 1950 - April 15, 2019

"Scotty was the class of 69. Lived in Long Beach for 35 years. Worked for Union Pacific Railroad and was retired. Loved lawn bowling and was becoming an accomplished artist. Never married, no children and somewhat a loner.
Friends found him dead in bed after not showing up for bowling. That is all we know. Going to miss my buddy. We lived together at San Diego State. We have seen Scotty for 32 straight years at the memorial race at Santa Anita for his brother Jack. We will miss Scotty."
Scott is preceded in death by his parents and brother Jack Boyd.
Scott's cause of death was Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease according to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner. He was 68 years old.

Jan. 20,1927 - March 13,2019
John Disney "Jack" Alsop, age 92, passed away at his home in West Covina, surrounded by his family on Wednesday March 13, 2019. He was born January 20, 1927 in Glendora to Wilbur and Malie Alsop the youngest of six children.
The family soon moved to Gila Bend, Arizona where Jack attended elementary school and helped in his father's bakery. During his high school years he moved back to California and graduated from Burbank High School. Shortly after he joined the Navy and served as a quartermaster in the Pacific theater during World War II on an LST.
He returned from the war and graduated from Glendale Jr. College. He then obtained his BS from USC in 1950. In September 1953 he married Marion Ann Sullivan and together they had three children. They moved to West Covina where Jack enjoyed family and friends. In June 1960, Jack graduated from Southwestern Law School and was an active member of the California Bar for over 50 years. He enjoyed practicing law and retired from Mercury Insurance Co. as their General Counsel.
Jack enjoyed bowling and being a member of the West Covina Elks lodge. He and Marion traveled around the world on many cruise ships. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who touched everyone's lives.
Jack is survived by Marion, his beloved wife of over 65 years, son Roger Alsop (Kelly), son John Alsop (Kim), daughter Linda Blackwell, six grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A celebration of life service will be held on April 6, 2019 at 11:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church San Dimas.

Hello fellow bulldogs of BHS class of 1971, sad news to report that Debra Wayne has passed on as of November 22, 2018. Debbie changed her name to Clarity and was fighting a rare form of cancer.
I will always remember her and Diane Wayne her identical twin fondly and all the fun we had together. Beach days hanging out at the Sorrento Grill in Santa Monica to name just one. She and her sister were gifted guitarists and singers!
Clarity, AKA Debbie Wayne (to most of us) is survived by her daughter, Amanda Ariel Mossman, and her granddaughter, Sutton Emery Mossman. Her mother, Betty Claire Wayne, Jon Gregory Wayne and his wife Teresa, and their three sons; Diane Wayne, her identical twin. Both Clarity and Diane as most of us know where, are extremely talented musically.
Clarity was cremated in a private ceremony, and her ashes will be spread in the Pacific Ocean later where her older brother, Richard Scott Strickland's ashes were also distributed by their brother, Jon. Clarity passed peacefully surrounded by her family.
Debra will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Darrel Lloyd Wooley, 65, died February 26, 1988 in Carlsbad, California. Born in Burbank on February 2, 1923, he lived here all his life. He was a building inspector for the city of Los Angeles, California for twenty-one years.
Graveside services were held February 29 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills. Forest Lawn Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Dean Fisher White, II

Dean F. White, II of Sunriver, Oregon died Sunday, March 19, 2006 of natural causes. He was 66 years old.
Dean was born August 5, 1939 in Oakland, California, the only child of Dean and Arlowyn White. At age 5, he moved to Burbank with his parents where he attended Thomas A. Edison Elementary School, John Muir Junior High School and graduated from Burbank High School in 1957. After graduation from high school, Dean attended Westminster College in Utah where he enrolled in business administration courses. He also took fire science classes from local colleges including Rio Hondo, Los Angeles Valley College, Pasadena City College, Glendale Community and Santa Ana College.
Dean also served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1964. Dean worked for his father,Dean White I, owner of Burbak Sporting Goods, for many years prior to joining the Burbank Fire Department in 1969.
Joining the Burbank Fire Department was a turning point in Dean's life. It was the start of a very distinguished and dignified career and he consistently moved upward within the ranks of the department. Starting out as a probationary firefighter, Dean was promoted to the rank of bFire Engineer in February 1973. In November 1973, he was appointed to the post of Fire Prevention Inspector and Investigator. In 1976, Dean applied, passed the required exams and was subsequently promated to Fire Captain. During his career with the fire department, Dean was also Master Recruit Instructor from 1979 to 1986 training five Recruit Classes as well as Radiological Defense Officer and Asst. Civil Defense Coordinator for the City of Burbank.
Dean retired from the Burbank Fire Department in 1992 and relocated to Sunriver where he could enjoy his other love, skiing. An avid skier and Class A racer in his younger years, Dean skied and raced downhill, giant slalom and Super G events at many of the renowned ski resorts throughout the United States, including Mammoth Mtn. (CA), Heavenly (CA,NV), Jackson Hole (WY), Sun Valley (ID), Aleyeska (AK), and many, many others. He made ski movies such as "High Skis" and "The White Search" for producer Dick Barrymore, was a member of Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol and was also a ski instructor at Snow Valley, CA.
Dean is survived by his daughters, Tracey A. DiMeglio and son-in-law, Andy Acosta, Kristin Louise White and Tammy L. and son-in-law Jim Wilson; his son, Jason White; and grandchildren, Nicholas and Jessica Fitzgerald. Also very special to Dean was John Fitzgerald, the father of Nicholas and Jessica.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at the Burbank Fire Department Training Center, 1845 N. Ontario St., Burbank.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Firefighters Quest for Burn Survivors, 1146 N. Central Ave, Suite 398, Glendale, CA, 91202-2506.
