Robert "Bob" F. Heins, BHS 1953



June 24, 1935 – February 2, 2012


Robert "Bob" Heins passed away peacefully at home on February 2, 2012, the love of his life, Sydney, by his side. He was 76 years old.


Bob lived his entire life in Burbank. He was involved in the Boy Scouts where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and made many friendships which he maintained throughout the years. He graduated from Burbank High School, Class of 1953, and joined the U.S. Army in 1954. While stationed in Germany he sent for his beloved, Sydney, and they were married there in Hanau 56 years ago. They have lived in Burbank since their return in 1956.


In 1957, Bob was sworn in as a police officer "To Serve And To Protect" the community he loved. He served in the Burbank Police Department for over 45 years, retiring in 2002 as Assistant Chief of Police. Bob was a member of numerous service organizations in the community. Participating in their many projects and activities brought him great joy and enduring friendships.


Bob is survived by his childhood sweetheart, Sydney, daughter Marta (David) Harris, son Robin (Michelle) Heins and a brother Richard (Becky) Heins. Also nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Robert Todd Heins and a brother James E. Heins.


Interment was at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park, North Hollywood in a private service.


A public memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 700 N. Glenoaks Boulevard, Burbank at 2 PM, Friday February 24. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice .
