"Joint Services Slated for Jeep Crash Victims"
Joint funeral services for two Burbank High School seniors killed in a jeep accident Monday will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, members of the youths' families announced yesterday.
Robert Sidney Tinker Jr., 17, of 714 E. Palm Ave., and Larry W. Hughes, 18, of 703 E. Harvard Road, both of Burbank, were found dead Tuesday morning January 22, 1951 beside a demolished jeep on a fire road in the Burbank Hills.
Their companion, Kenneth Lee Harrison, 17, of 925 E. Olive Ave., Burbank, was found unconscious nearby and was still in critical condition yesterday at St. Joseph Hospital with head injuries.
Police reported the boys apparently went riding in the hills Monday night. While attempting to negotiate a narrow fire road they lost control of the jeep and hurtled to a dirt road about 90 feet down a cliff.
The three youths were to graduate with their senior class at the Burbank High School commencement tonight. Principal Gerald Ogborn said the diplomas of the two dead youths will be awarded posthumously during the exercises. Ogborn said that members of the class had voted to cancel the traditional senior candlelight supper scheduled for yesterday in memory of the two youths.
The Tinker boy leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tinker, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Pagones, of Burbank.
The Hughes boy leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hughes, and two brothers, Lt. C. Lee Healy with the Air Forces in Japan and Robert Hughes of Laguna Beach.
