Elmer Scott Bymaster, BHS 1943 

Mr. Elmer Scott Bymaster, 90, of Burbank, died peacefully Tuesday evening, February 23, 2016. He was born in Burbank, California, on August 15, 1925 but his parents, and extended family were rooted in Oklahoma.

Elmer grew up in Burbank in a house built by his father on Cypress Avenue. He attended Edison, Emerson, and Luther Burbank for elementary schools; John Muir Junior High and finally Burbank High School.

After High School he went into the Army/Air Corp. He was stationed at Buckley Field and LaHunta in Colorado. He also went to Kayman gunnery school in Arizona as well as Texas Tech where he became a flight officer and graduated from bombing school. He received orders to go to the South Pacific, via Carrie Nebraska bombing base for the new B-29 bomber, however he never got to the Pacific as the war ended. Elmer was in the service from 1943-1945.

He married the love of his Life, Margaret "Margie" Lee Odell on June 28, 1947. The service was at St. Jude's Episcopal Church. Elmer was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was one of Burbank's most prominent roofers, "Bymaster Roofing" for over forty years. A business that was his father's before him. The property he was raised on as a child, became his roofing yard and an infamous place where he held the very popular semi-annual garage sales. People would be lined up to attend before the crack of dawn. He loved his people, but he loved his antiques almost as much.

He is survived by daughter, Betsy Tidwell of Scottsdale Arizona., daughter Jill O'Dea-Parker, husband Tony Parker, grandson Marty and Lane O'Dea, and Tony Jr. Parker of San Diego, California, and daughter April Saylor, husband Bob Saylor and granddaughters Brittany and Hannah of Santa Clarita, California. Elmer is also survived by his two sisters, Margaret Wyrick and Beulah Armendariz.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on March 3rd at 4:00 p.m. at the first Presbyterian Church of Burbank at 521 East Olive Avenue, Burbank, 91501. Elmer will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills in a private family ceremony.
