Judith Ann Onstott Tufts,our loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother, died peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at her home in Lehi, Utah.
The oldest of three daughters, Judy was born to Merle Jones and William Henry Onstott on December 29, 1944, in Glendale, California. Judy enjoyed a wonderful childhood in Burbank, California, with her parents and sisters, Barbara Louise and Linda Marie, that included many hours of playing the piano, organ, and flute, performing on the Burbank High School Drill Team, and where she developed her love of and talent for sewing.
In 1964, Judy moved to Provo, Utah, to study Nursing at Brigham Young University. At BYU, Judy met Devon Clarence Tufts; a fellow student, recently returned LDS missionary, and a young man who Judy described as “tall, handsome, and knocked my socks off.”
Judy and Devon were married and sealed for Time and All Eternity in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on December 17, 1966. Judy also graduated from BYU in 1966 and moved to Southern California with Devon in 1970, where they raised their seven children together.
Judy’s family was the center of her life, which she illustrated through daily acts of love and service, both large and small, for over a half a century. Judy also found great happiness in her church and has said that “the greatest desire of my heart is that all of my children and grandchildren stay true to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” Along with callings such as “mother” and “wife,” Judy served as Relief Society President, Boy Scout Committee Chairman, and teacher in the Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary organizations. She absolutely loved being the Pianist for the Leona Valley Women’s Ensemble and, as organist, filled countless church services with beautiful music her entire life.
While raising her seven children and devoting a lifetime of service to her church and community, Judy also spent many years working as a Labor and Delivery Nurse, helping to bring many new babies into this world.
Judy and Devon completed two full-time missions for the Church in Birmingham, England, and Honolulu, Hawaii.
To know Judy by any name - mom, wife, daughter, sister, missionary, nurse, or simply Judy – is to love Judy. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Barbara Earle, and survived by her husband, Devon, her sister, Linda Bright, her seven children, David (Suzie), Bradley (Jenna), Daryn (Catie), Lori (Eric), Stephen (Andrea), Emily, and Marianne (Tony), and her 21 grandchildren, ages seven months to 25 years old.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 27 at 12:00 pm at the Ivory Ridge LDS Chapel located at 127 E. 3200 N., Lehi, UT. You may visit with her family prior to the funeral service from 10:00-11:45 am. Internment at the Highland City Cemetery.
