DeleteMike Ballard here. I ran across this post while looking for Roy's dad Moose. I'm told he is still alive. Moose coached my brother Ed Ballard and I in baseball over 50 years ago. Ed also passed recently and I was hoping to look the old man up and say hello and thank you. Do you know if he is still in the old Groton house?

Ed has passed? Oh no! I’m not sure his classmates know this, would you mind sharing the information? My condolences to your family and to Dawn.
DeleteMy husband and I rented Roy's house on Brighton Street in Burbank, in the mid 1980s. My husband, Jim Genova, also knew Roy from school. We were out for dinner last night, when Jim learned via Facebook, that Roy had recently passed, which prompted me to Google and find this memorial page. We're sad to learn of his passing. Our condolences to his family.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear of Roy's passing. I dated Roy in the early 80's for about 5 years when he worked in the trouble area of the DWP. I remember him coming over after a night in a storm working to restore power. in 1986 I had a child who was fathered by Roy who sadly he did not want to meet or have anything to do with. She grew up to be a lovely young woman with Roy's blue eyes and model height, whom my incredible husband adopted. I am sorry that Roy never had a chance to meet her.
DeleteRest in peace mr. Pyros
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying a quiet Sunday, hanging out with my GF and was just silently going over the roster of humans, both good and bad, that I've encountered in a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteI happened to Google one of the good guys. I was going to reach out and say hi.I worked for Roy (Mr. Pyros to me) in the Palms area of LA. He was the Superintendent there and I was one of an army of nameless apprentices there in '94.
I was a good employee so consequently our paths never crossed. I was a name on a white board.
What I remember about Roy, aside from passing in the hallway with the usual "morning" being exchanged, was the day he learned that I was resigning.
Evidently he did know me to some degree. I'm a big guy, Roy was bigger. He put his arm over my shoulder as we walked into the office together and he tried to talk me out of leaving, offering words of encouragement.
I'm sad to learn of Roy death. I'll always remember him and keep his family in my thoughts and prayers
RIP Roy...
