Robert LeBaron Patton, BHS 1944
Robert LeBaron "Bob" Patton passed away in Arroyo Grande on October 30, 2018 at the age of 92. He was born in Fargo, ND, son of Eugene LeBaron Patton (1898-1988) and Margaret Thornton Barnes (1900-1998). As an infant, he moved with the family from Fargo to Inglewood, CA.
He graduated from Burbank High School in 1944, and attended Glendale City College majoring in meteorology until he was accepted into the Army Air Corps, serving during WWII. Bob worked for the Signal Oil Company in the San Fernando Valley, began his tax accounting business there and continued in that occupation after moving to SLO County in 1985. He received a Certificate of Recognition for his 27 years of leadership and participation in the AARP Tax-Aide Program.
For hobbies, Bob restored 2 vintage Ford cars, a 1925 Model T Touring and a 1915 Model T Roadster. His focus changed and he became a Commercial Hot Air Balloon Pilot. After moving to Arroyo Grande, he learned to play the saxophone and enjoyed playing with the Morro Bay White Caps Community Band. Bob married Doreen Shipley (1928-1992) on July 17 1947, in Burbank. They divorced in 1958.
He is survived by daughters, Carlyn Patton Miller (John), of Templeton, CA, and Joyce Patton, of San Luis Obispo; grandsons, Monte Miller (Bradyn), of Camus, WA, formerly of Templeton, and Ryan Marlett (Anita), of Atascadero, CA; great granddaughters, Casey Marlett of Atascadero, and Lindsey Marlett Horne (Tyler), of Bridgeport, TX, along with Troy Horne, Bob's great, great grandson.
Bob was cremated and no public services are planned at this time. In memory of Bob, he would be pleased for donations to be made to any of the many disabled veterans associations which he proudly supported. God saw him getting tired, a healing not meant to be, so He wrapped his arms around him and whispered. "Come with me."
