Lyons - Herbert Hoy Deeter, 83, died Saturday. He was born in Milford, Indiana, and began his commitment to religion when he was 13. He graduated from Burbank High school and attended La Verne College, Biola College and the University of California at Los Angeles. He was a machinist. He took courses at the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary in Fresno, California, where he was ordained a minister in 1958.
He married Patsy Evans on September 11, 1932; she died in 1969. He married Eleanor Henderson on July 29, 1972.
Survivors include his wife; son, Bill of Lyons; daughters, Joy D. Schumacher of Cedarville, Ohio, LuAnn Helms of Jefferson, Patty Haffner of Sparks, Nevada, and Sally Parrish of Salem; sister, Mildred Barton of Carson City, Nevada; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Canyon Baptist Church. Interment will be in Bilyeu Den Cemetery, Scio. Arrangements are by Weddle mortuary, Stayton. Contribution may be made to Gideons Child Evangelism Fellowship or to Wycliffe Bible Translators.
