Jeffrey J. Viets, BHS 1960

Jeffrey J. Viets, BHS 1960

A celebration of life for Sequim resident Jeff J. Viets will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 6 in the forest he loved at his Sequim home. The Rev. Lynn Osborne will preside. Mr. Viets died Nov. 15, 2008, at the age of 65 following a stroke.

He was born Dec. 28, 1942, in California.

After 40 years as a systems engineer for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company with the elite Skunkworks Team, he retired to the North Olympic Peninsula in 2005. He married Kathleen Hennen on Oct. 13, 2008, in Santa Fe, N.M.

He loved the outdoors, was an active hiker and a member of the Audubon Society. He sang with barbershop groups, participated in square dances, was a gourmet cook and studied cake decorating. He was a model train enthusiast and an avid gardener who loved flowers. His love for the arts, including music and theater, led to his meeting his wife, Kathleen, when she was performing in a local production in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Viets; son Byron Viets of Fresno, Calif.; daughters Leslie Ann Viets and Wendy Ziska, both of Denver, Colo.; sister Valerie Viets of Burbank, Calif.; brothers David Viets of Clovis, Calif., and Brad Viets of Boise, Idaho; and two grandchildren.
