Charles Herbert Vincent, BHS 1946

Charles Herbert Vincent February 2, 1928 - June 6, 2014 Charles Herbert Vincent, 86, of Burbank California passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 6, 2014. Herb was born in Hamilton Montana to Frank Seymour Vincent and Flossie Jewel (Pyle) Vincent. He graduated from Burbank High School in 1946 and married Velma Louise Boren on April 9, 1949 who he met on a blind date in 1947. During the Korean War he served in the Untied States Air Force with the 562nd United States Air Force Band at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia and George Air Force Base in Victorville, California. He played the tuba in the marching band and string bass in the dance band and was eventually promoted to Staff Sergeant. Herb was a member of Emmanuel Church for 60 years and a member of the Burbank Kiwanis Club for 44 years. He owned Vincent Realty and was a member of the planning commission for the City of Burbank in the 1980’s. Herb was a docent and board member of the Burbank Historical Society and for many years the editor of the Senior Bulldog Newsletter.
Herb is survived by his wife of 65 years, Velma Vincent; children Karen Bertholet and her husband, Reverend Dr. Rodney Bertholet of Clackamas, OR, Bob Vincent and Louanne Peterson, of Valencia, CA, Glenda Vincent of Burbank, CA, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Marge and brothers Frank, Donald and Darryl. In November 1993, Herb received a heart transplant and lived an additional 20 years with his new heart. He was well respected and loved by all who knew him. It was only fitting that Herb, a man with a great heart, was given a second chance at life by receiving a heart transplant. Services will be held at Emmanuel Church, 438 East Harvard Road, Burbank, California, on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Donations in memory of Herb Vincent can be made to Emmanuel Church or the Burbank Noon Kiwanis Club c/o Dave Harris, Kiwanis Club Secretary, 2106 Hilton Drive, Burbank, California 91504
