REV. George W. Southwick, D.D., BHS 1936

REV. GEORGE W. SOUTHWICK, D.D. 1918-2006 Longtime Santa Maria resident Rev. George W. Southwick, D.D., 87, passed into glory at his home on January 21, 2006. Rev. Southwick was born December 1, 1918, in Lakeland, Florida. When he was a young boy he and his family moved to Burbank, California. He was always interested in sports and was a star football player on the Burbank High School football team, graduating in 1936. George attended Life Bible College, Los Angeles, after high school and received his divinity ordination in the Foursquare denomination. He further went on to three more ordinations in the Assemblies of God, Apostolic Holiness and Whosoever Will denominations. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity in the late 90's in Jacksonville, Florida. He has lived a life of service in the ministry pasturing several churches and preaching at many, many locations all over the country and also spending time on evangelistic tours, which he truly enjoyed. He and his wife, Leona, began The Bible Educator Ministry, Inc. in 1975, and maintained a tape ministry until his death. He has friends all over the world, having received phone calls to talk about theology daily. He loved reading, learning, researching, sharing and collecting religious material. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Leona R. Southwick, in 1996. He is survived by his children, Carol J. DeKorte and her husband James of Central Point, Oregon; Philip R. Southwick and his wife Linda of Santa Maria; Wanda J. Stouffer and her husband Steven of Mill Creek, Washington and Paul J. Southwick of Penngrove, California. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He will be tremendously missed by his family and all who loved and knew him. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 AM, January 27 at the Santa Maria Foursquare Church, 709 N. Curryer Street, Santa Maria, California.
