Genevieve Annabelle Suer Isakson, BHS 1942


Genevieve Annabelle Isakson, 90, of Duncombe, Iowa passed away at her daughter’s home in Mustang, Oklahoma surrounded by her family on May 2, 2015. A private service will be held on May 11, 2015 at the Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge with Rev. James Zuehls officiating. Burial will be in McGuire Bend cemetery.
 
Genevieve was born March 16, 1925 to James and Maude (Richey) Suer in Coalville, Iowa. At the age of 2 the family moved to Otho where she attended school through the 7th grade. The family moved to Burbank, California in 1937 where she graduated from Burbank High School in 1942. Jenny worked for Northwest Bell Telephone Company in Burbank, California during the war years.

She married Alvin L. Isakson on February 26, 1944 in Pasadena, California. After Al’s discharge from the Army in 1946 they moved to South Dakota to his family’s farm. In 1951 the family moved to Duncombe, Iowa, where they resided and farmed for 60 years. She worked for Standard Engineering Co. from 1966-1972, Parish Secretary for the Duncombe-Vincent Lutheran Churches from 1976-1999, and also served as Sunday school teacher, 4H Leader, and on the Home Extension Council.
 
She is survived by her husband Alvin, daughter Kathryn and her husband Jim Spurlin of Mustang, Oklahoma and son Ronald Isakson of Illinois, sister-in-law Millie Suer of Wichita, Kansas, 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Everett. Jenny loved being with her family, growing flowers, feeding birds, and cooking for her friends and family, especially her apple pie. She was loved by everyone she knew and will be greatly missed by all.
