Frances "Fran" Roth Ziegler, 95, of Albany peacefully passed away Sunday evening November 28, 2010.
Fran was born March 18, 1915, in Albany, the daughter of William and Anna B. (Roth) Whitaker. As a young girl, Fran moved with her family to California, where she graduated from Burbank High School and acquired her associate degree from Glendale Community College.
She met Ernest Ziegler and they married on Aug. 24, 1935, in Vancouver, Wash. Fran attended and graduated from cosmetology college in Salem. She worked at a few salons, then opened her own shop. Fran managed the Pop's Café, now known as Pop's Branding Iron, after managing Tops Café.
Fran attended the Albany Presbyterian Church, and was involved in the Al Kader Shriners and the Shriners Hospital in Portland. She was a member of the Elks lodge, the Eagles lodge, American Legion Post 10, Order of the Eastern Star, the Albany Gleaners and the Daughters of the Nile.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest; and sisters Viola, Elma, Virginia, Margaret and Beverly. Survivors include sister Doris Graupensperger and her husband, George, of Albany; a "special sisty," Leona Schrock of Albany; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends.
Viewing will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home. A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. It is suggested memorial contributions be made to the Shriner Children's Hospital in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington St. S.W., Albany, OR 97321.
