Leonard "Lane" Bevers was born in Hollywood, California on February 22, 1937. He passed away at midnight on October 12, 2007 from a sudden stroke.

Lane graduated Burbank High School in 1957. When he was 18, he married Carolyn Sue Morse. He enlisted in the Air Force where he was stationed in Abilene, Texas where their three daughters, Rhonda, Sonia, and Wendy; were born. After his tour of service, he moved his family to Sun Valley, California where they lived for many years. While there he worked as a mechanic at Adell Machinery, Lockheed, and he also briefly owned a gas station. In 1970, he was hired by Boeing which relocated the family to Edmonds.

After his marriage ended, he moved to Lacey, where he went to work at Fort Lewis as a Civil Service helicopter mechanic. He retired in 1990 and has since enjoyed his many friends and hobbies. An avid animal lover, he took in and cared for wayward birds, as many as 35 at a time, ranging from small exotic birds to McCaw parrots. He owned a Honda Gold Wing motorcycle and recently made a road trip with a friend to Alaska. Another of his favorite hobbies was tinkering on his computer where he met many new friends from all over the country.

In 2000, his good friend Barbara Hickman moved in with him and was his beloved friend and companion for seven years. He also leaves behind his long-time friend, Mary Jones; his long-time friend and recent sweetheart, Donna Buth; his best buddy and "bro", Bruce Bevers; and his eldest daughter, Rhonda Baker and her daughters, Meagan and Melanie. A memorial is planned for Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Funeral Home located at 2501 Pacific Avenue SE in Olympia.
