Shirley (Madden) Blocher 1928-2011


Born May 4, 1928 to Tom and Irene Madden in Griswold, Iowa, Shirley moved with her family to Burbank, California in 1939. She met Dwain Blocher when they both were at Burbank High School. After graduation Dwain served in the Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1945. they were married in 1944. Trusting God, Shirley said it was the best decision she ever made.


Then when the war ended, Dwain went to school to become a dentist while Shirley worked as a telephone operator. Once Dwain had his own practice, she worked in his office.


Preceded in death by parents, sister, Marilyn and in 2003 her husband Dwain, she is survived by daughter Rene'e Cavender and husband Bill, son Paul Blocher and wife Dianne, daughter Allie Cossio and husband Daniel, sisters Suzanne Dennis, Mary Foucault and husband Jack, Tomi Smith and husband Gary, eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and dear nieces and nephews.


In lieu of flowers, please donate to your place of worship or Hospice of Ukiah. Memorial service will be held 1:00pm, Saturday, 12/31/11, at Calvary Baptist Church, 465 Luce Ave., Ukiah. Arrangements are under the direction of the Eversole Mortuary.
