Jack Ricketts, BHS Former School Administrator

Jack Ricketts 
1925 - 2017

September 25, 1925 - December 21, 2017 Jack Ricketts passed away at home surrounded by family and loved ones on December 21, 2017, at the age of 92. Jack was the beloved husband of Shirley Mae Ricketts for 68 years and loving father to Nancy Ricketts Arnold and Karen Ricketts. 

He is survived by his wife Shirley Mae, both daughters, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Jack and Shirley Mae met in 1946 when Jack returned after serving three years in the Navy as a pharmacist's mate in the South Pacific during WWII. 

Jack was a native Californian, born in Glendale in 1925. He graduated from Hoover High School in 1943, earned a BS Degree in Biology at Occidental College and a MA Degree in Educational Administration at CSU Northridge. His education afforded him the opportunities to teach science and serve as an administrator in the Burbank Unified School District. 

Jack was active in a variety of community organizations, including Burbank YMCA Board of Directors, Bridge Across the Way Board, Magnolia Park Optimist Club, and Family Services Agency of Burbank. Jack enjoyed traveling the world, fishing, sailing, gardening, and reading. Above all, Jack loved his family. 

The family is planning a private burial with military honors at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. A public celebration to honor Jack's beautiful and rewarding life will be held on Saturday, February 17th at 1:30 PM at Burbank First United Methodist Church, 700 N. Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank, CA 91502. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Magnolia Park Optimist Club or Burbank First United Methodist Church.
