Michael A. Moffitt, BHS 1971
Michael A. Moffitt, 51, of Thousand Oaks died Monday,Oct. 25, 2004. Michael was born in Visalia on Jan. 24, 1953, to Marshall and Lelah Moffitt. He attended Park Oaks Elementary School, Thousand Oaks, and graduated from Burbank High School , lettering in swimming and water polo. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era and served as a nuclear electrical plant operator aboard the USS Drum, a fast-attack nuclear submarine.
He was a graduate of California Lutheran University and earned a bachelor of science degree in geology and later his teaching credential. He was a product engineer for Semtech Corp. for 21 years and was recently teaching science at Moorpark High School.
Michael is survived by his wife, Karla Lysdal-Moffitt; daughter, Alexandra; a cat, Sadie, who thinks she is a dog; mother, Lelah Moffitt of Thousand Oaks; father and stepmother, Marshall and Anna Moffitt of San Andreas, Calavaras County; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathryn and Jeff Laub of Simi Valley and Virginia and Paul Boyert of Thousand Oaks.
He will also be greatly missed by his in-laws, Jack and Yvonne Lysdal of Thousand Oaks, Peter and Melinda Lysdal of Las Vegas, Nev., Eric Lysdal of Thousand Oaks, Karen Lysdal of Thousand Oaks, Lisa and Keith Handley of Encino, Chris and Sandy Lysdal of Reno, Nev., and Jackie and Justin Gilles of San Diego County.
Michael had numerous nieces and nephews who thought he was the best uncle ever! A public viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary, 101 Wilbur Road, Thousand Oaks. A memorial service celebrating Michael's life will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 W. Avenida de Los Arboles, Thousand Oaks.
Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or California Lutheran University Early Childhood Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary, Thousand Oaks; phone 1-805-495-4641.
