Ronald Charles VandeWeg, BHS 1959
Services: Sat., April, 30, 1:00 p.m. We will celebrate the life of Ronald VandeWeg on Saturday, April 30, 2005, 1:00 p.m., at Hooper and Weaver Chapel, in Nevada City, California. Ron passed away on Sunday, April 24th after a long battle with cancer. Ron was born June 29, 1940, in Torrance, California. He lived in the Los Angeles area during his childhood and adolescence and graduated from Burbank High School in 1959. After high school, Ron joined the Army and was a member of the Signal Corps and the Green Berets.
Once Ron was through jumping out of airplanes for the Army, he entered Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and graduated with a degree in Agricultural Science. Soon afterwards he found himself married with two children and teaching Ag. Mechanics and Drafting at Arvin High School. After a long tenure at AHS, Ron moved on to teach at Kern Valley High School in Lake Isabella. He retired in 2001. Ron was particularly well-known for his booming voice and larger-than-life personality.
He loved to travel and explore the outdoors, but also enjoyed settling down in his favorite chair every evening for a good smoke and a bad movie. His sense of humor was infectious, and his opinions were always honest and wise. His unmistakable charisma has left an impression on so many; while he is physically no longer with us, he will never truly be gone. Ron's legacy continues with his wife, Elizabeth; son, Derek; and daughter, Vanessa. We wish to thank all who have offered their support and prayers.
