Curtis Hagele, May 13, 1940 - March 10, 1980
Curtis was a highly decorated member of the Los Angeles Police Department's "SIS" Unit, Detective Hagele was accidentally shot by fellow LAPD officer after staking out two bank robbery suspects.
When 29 year-old Colvin Mitchell exited the American Savings and Loan at 201 Manhattan Beach Blvd, Manhattan Beach, the officers quickly determined that he had indeed robbed the bank.
They attempted to arrest him and followed him as he fled on foot. In the scuffle that followed, they accidentally shot one of their own officers. Hagele died 90 minutes later in South Bay Hospital. The convicted felon was killed at the scene.
Detective Curtis was buried with full police honors at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, California.
