Soldotna resident Leland E. Savoie, 53, died June 17, 1994 at Central Peninsula General Hospital. A funeral service was at Soldotna United Methodist Church with a visitation at Peninsula Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Spruce Grove Memorial Park in Kasilof.
Mr. Leland was born Dec. 13, 1940, in West Hollywood, Calif. Before coming to Alaska, he worked for Warner Brothers in Hollywood. He moved in 1967 to Cordova. He then moved in 1968 to the Soldotna area where he worked in construction as a carpenter and block layer. Mr. Leland was a member of Carpenters Union Local 1281 and the Civil Air Patrol.
His hobbies included antique cars, antique collecting, coin collecting, flying, hunting and carpentry. Mr. Lelan's family said, "the most important facet in his life was his family. He brought great joy to his immediate and extended family and he will be missed."
Mr. Leland was preceded in death by his father, Raymond and his sister, Carolyn. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Soldotna; sons, Todd R. of Anchorage, Shanee L. of Bozeman, Mont., and Aron G. of Soldotna; daughters, Cathrene Gingerich of Boise, Idaho, and Andrea Leigh Savoie of Soldotna; mother, Violet of Hollywood, Calif.; and grandchildren, Megan, Danielle, Tianna and Lauren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society, Central Peninsula Unit, P.O. Box 2165, Kenai, Alaska 99611-2165 or to a charity of choice. Arrangements were handled by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
