Christine Gates McShane died on May 13, 2009 at age 59 in Frazier Park, near Bakersfield, California.
Chris had breathing problems. She had been extremely overweight, but lost over 100 lbs.
Chris attended the local elementary school and was a member of the Girls Scouts and graduated from Burbank High School with the class of 1968.
Chris attended Burbank United Methodist Church where Chris was Education Director and a member for many years. She was a wonderful, loving woman, married with two grown daughters.
Received word that Brent Poe passed away on July 18, 2018 after a long and brave battle with cancer.

Brent went to ride some better waves and ski some perfect powder this week... and then decided to stay there. He said to come up whenever because the conditions are perfect everyday.
So glad we got together to see you in March for dinner and fellowship. I'll see you soon and we can drive that shitty Pee Yellow VW with 60 series tires (too big) on it to the Heavenly Wedge where you'll never lose a fin or get cut-off.
Miss you Brent - See you later! - This is NOT goodbye.
Shannon Arlene Hardy

Our loving wife and friend passed away on the morning of June 1, 2005. She courageously battled pancreatic cancer for more than a year before bravely succumbing with her husband and children at her side.
Shannon is survived by her husband of 40 years, Bill Hardy; brother, Dennis Kneff; children, Bret Hardy and Stacey Ross; grandchildren, Samantha Hardy, Blake Hardy, Peyton Ross and Caden Ross; foster child, Candace Henderson, one grandchild due in July; and a loving of extended family members.
She was the daughter of Charles and Patricia Kneff, born 1945 in Los Angeles. She was raised in Burbank and attended Burbank High School. She earned her bachelor's degree from California State University, Northridge in 1968 and moved to Simi Valley, where she resided for the past 37 years. Shannon was a junior and senior high school teacher, coach and advisor for more than 34 years in Simi Valley. Before retiring two years ago, she devoted her life to her family and close friends, and to literally thousands of children and young adults who she taught coached and advised in the classroom, athletic fields, drill team and cheer-leading.

Shannon had a zest and passion for life. She jumped into every opportunity that life presented with both feet. hands and heart. She was a competitor. She challenged all to work hard, practice, try our best.....but always enjoy the experience. For our wife , mother and friend, it wasn't about the outcome, but rather the journey! She is loved by those who knew her kindness, compassion and unselfish spirit. We are better people because of her lessons of dedication and commitment. We will continue to live life to its fullest every day, but because this too is what she would want. Shannon will be missed, but never forgotten.
The family wishes to express a sincere and heartfelt thank you to the many individuals who provided care and assistance to Shannon over the past year.

Florence Rutledge

Former Burbank resident, Florence Rutledge, 86, died August 14, 1990 in Bloomington, Indiana. Born in Martinsville, Indiana, she lived in Burbank for 62 years.
She graduated from from Martinsville High School and the University of Indiana. She was a teacher with Burbank Unified School District for 36 years. She retired in 1964.
Graveside services were held August 17th at New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville. Neal and Summers Mortuary of Martinsville handled the arrangements.
Donations may be sent to the Morgan County Library, 110 S. Jefferson St., Martinsville, Indiana 46151 in her name. Funds will be used to purchase travel books. Travel was her favorite interest.

Jackie Gable Troutman, BHS 1957
Jackie grew up in Burbank and attended the local schools graduating from Burbank High School with the Class of 1957. While at Burbank High, Jackie was involved in many school activities including Song Leader, Winter and Summer Executive Council, Z Club, Campus Christians, and Theater Arts and School Productions.
Jackie was married right out of high school and was a stay at home mom. Jackie passed away at home in her sleep on May 29, 2018. She had been sick for a long time. She will be missed by her family and friends. No other details at this time.
Robert Harry Lovejoy

Beloved father, husband, craftsman, deli and bar owner, guardian of the past, and teller of bad jokes, Bob Lovejoy left us suddenly on July 7th, 2018, felled by a stroke just shy of his 70th birthday.
Born August 29, 1948 to Charles and Patricia Lovejoy, he was a proud son of Burbank, attending Ralph Emerson Elementary, John Muir JHS and Burbank High School, maintaining friendships he made there through adulthood. He graduated with a Masters in Design from Cal State Northridge. His family collected antiques creating in him an intense appreciation for the past and its relics. He idolized his uncles and his grandfather, who played polo in Santa Barbara on occasion. As a young man, Bob was a master woodworker and was published in magazines devoted to the craft.
A brief marriage in 1970 resulted in two sons, Clayton (who would later become his business partner) and Graham, who preceded him in death in 2016. Following that marriage, he relocated to Santa Barbara with Dawn Broomis, who would become his wife and mother to their daughter Athena.
Bob took up the tile trade in 1977, and soon struck out on his own, starting Lovejoy Design working alongside Roger Chackel and Bob McCourt who would become dear friends. His keen sense of design set him apart from others, and his work was a crowning piece of many local estates.
Bob and Dawn loved to travel, visiting the ancient ruins of Mexico and Guatemala, sailing in Greece and sunning in Costa Rica. Over the course of 25 years, he built a second home on the Sea of Cortez in Baja California.
Bob loved to fish, play golf, watch his beloved Rams play football, coach and play softball, cheer on the Dodgers the Santa Barbara Foresters, and play bocce ball. He was a social butterfly, a recent and proud member of the D.B.’s on the Mesa, and generally got along with everybody. He loved old roots reggae, the blues, the Talking Heads, Taj Mahal, and attending concerts at The Lobero, The Bowl and other great local venues.
In 2006, as his knees and tiling were slowing down, Bob started his second act. He and Clay walked out of Jimmy’s one night and saw a “For Sale” sign next door at Chio’s Sandwich Shop. Having always dreamt of opening a deli, he invited Clay and Bob (whose sandwiches he loved) to join him in his venture, saying, “Let’s take a chance!” Three Pickles Subs & Sandwiches was born, alas, just as Jimmy’s owner
Tommy Chung was retiring and closing the legendary Chinatown restaurant and bar. The shop thrived and in 2009 they opened up a second location in Goleta. In 2010 they were asked by Jerry Jackman and the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation to take over the lease of a short-lived store in the restaurant half of Jimmy’s. Lovejoy & Co. spent months and untold sums of money repairing previous tenant damage and bringing the place up to snuff. A plate with a design he liked became the inspiration for the floor tile (and is displayed there today). A long, beautiful marble bar invited customers to stay and enjoy their lunches, and they did.
Bob’s true gift to the citizenry of Santa Barbara is next door to Three Pickles – Lovejoy’s Pickle Room. Bob was given the lease to the bar, his cherished hangout, and set out to restore it to its former glory, with updated touches. He extended the bar to its original length, repaired and re-plumbed, jackhammered, and eventually rolled on three coats of Ralph Lauren Gold paint (“Even the walls were thirsty!,” remarked pal, Mo McFadden). Tommy gave his blessing to hang the old Jimmy’s Oriental Gardens sign behind the bar, making it not only the focal point of the bar, but an anchor into the past. He convinced his friend and longtime Jimmy’s bartender, Willy Gilbert came onboard to run the place; Bob would have it no other way. Bob, a meticulous Virgo, with his sharp eye for detail and talented hand, was the only one that could’ve done justice to Jimmy’s and the Chung family. It’s what Jackman called, “a first-rate act of historic restoration.” The building and bar stand as his lasting testament to wanting to keep in place a spot that made us all, friend or first-timer, feel at home. Bob was as good as a “front of house” person as any establishment could hope to have.
Bob leaves behind his wife Dawn and their daughter Athena, his son Clay and wife Martha and their boys Mason and Ethan, a granddaughter Ariah, and many, many friends and admirers.
A celebration of Bob Lovejoy’s life will be held at 2PM on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Glen Annie Golf Club, 405 Glen Annie Rd. in Goleta (a sold-out “Lovejoy’s Legacy Golf Event” having been held there the preceding Wednesday).
Deborah Ann Loccia-Addison, 62, passed away on December 9, 2017 in Palm Desert after battling an assortment of health issues, including cancer and congenital heart failure.
A loving mother, wife, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband Kevin, her two sons, John and Brian, her daughter Deanna, and her two grandchildren, Wyatt and Evan.
A memorial service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi in La Quinta on January 19; the rosary will be at 9:30 AM followed by services at 10 AM.

Deborah Ann Loccia Addison was always a force to be reckoned with: fiercely intelligent, defiantly independent, inspirationally (and frustratingly) challenging, Debbie had an effect on everyone who met her. Despite the length of time that had passed or the briefness of the relationships she held with hundreds, she maintained a connection with every person she loved and cared for. From the old high school friends of her children to her own high school friends… From the coworkers of her husband to the caregivers of her neighbors… From God to her grandchildren, Debbie assured her world of friends and family that they were never forgotten, lost, or not loved.
With the loss of Debbie’s mother and father, Natalino and Mary Loccia, she battled with what many folks battle with when losing loved ones: depression, a sense of loss, and a debilitating loss of health.
At the age of 62, shortly after battling everything from heart issues to breast cancer, Debbie was taken into God’s care so she could offer her services to those in heaven.
Her husband, Kevin, was her rock—and through her many struggles, maintained her comfort and sense of identity while her body slowly debilitated, all the while supporting her emotionally, financially, and physically.
During this time, we are doing our best to assure that her arrangements as she descends into the afterlife are what she deserves. Given the financial constraints being undertaken by her husband and family—this includes everything from cremation services and funeral plans to flowers and travel arrangements for her immediate family—we are depending on those who knew and loved her best to contribute what they can. Any and all donations, handled by her sons and husband, are not only appreciated but essential in assuring that her passing is done with respect and love.

Mary has been such an influence for so many at Pacific Bell/SBC/AT&T. I met her over 20 years ago, asking for her help on an electronics inventory project during the first time PB pursued video delivery. We have worked together on many endeavors since. She possessed utmost integrity (tho knew how to bend the rules safely) and passion for getting things done no nonsense. She had extraordinary customer focus and could always just figure out how make things work - smart woman! She always had time for you and was ready to collaborate on anything. I think many of Mary's AT&T colleagues were unaware of her illness, so we're still processing the shock and deep sadness. Just reinforces her selflessness and love for others, but we are so sorry we weren't there for her, as she was always for us. But I do know there will be many times ahead when her name will be recalled in some circumstance to remind us how we should act and be. Miss you and love you, Mary. Deepest sympathies to the Bernier and extended family and friends.

My condolences to the Bernier family, I was saddened to hear about Mary. I never had the pleasure to actually meet her, I work in the dispatch dept. in Dallas, TX. I did however have many conversations on the phone with her when I had to call her, she always had me laughing before our conversations ended. It was a pleasure knowing her and she will be greatly missed. I will keep the family in my prayers.

I first met Mary in the '80s, when she became our group's 2nd Level. I remember that bubbly personality and her asking if I would represent non-management on a District-wide project. It was the start of major leadership development for me. Years later she would be instrumental in my career again, as I was promoted to be her counterpart in the Orange/Riverside C&E, managing the DSEE group. The new supervisor I was, she committed to me and my group's success by spending time with me and sharing information. I will never forget. Mary, you are the epitome of what our company represents and will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace.

Mary Bernier was an ICON. I worked with her the last 20+ years of my career. She was always inclusive. I particularly remember her having access to the Governor's Women's Conference in Long Beach and making sure that many of us engineers were able to attend. She could make equipment appear as if by magic when there was a "hot Job"! Mary was a wealth of knowledge, and was always willing to go the extra mile. Sincere condolences to her family and friends.

The Rev. Dr. Marilyn Banks Batchelder
The Rev. Dr. Marilyn Banks Batchelder died on August 5, 2018 from heart failure. She was 87. Marilyn was a pastoral psychotherapist, a social activist, a beloved elementary and high school teacher, an author, and a national junior badminton champion.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard (Dick) Batchelder, their four children and five grandchildren. She brought a brilliant mind, a strong ethical sense, and a love of life to everything she did.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 2 at 3 PM at Union Congregational Church, 176 Cooper Avenue in Montclair, New Jersey.
