Kathy “Tink” Brown went Home to Jesus on November 2, 2020 at age 59.

Kathy was born to Marilyn Ellis on December 19, 1960 in Tempe Arizona. She attended Glendale Community College and obtained a Degree in Nursing, graduating top of her class in 1995 and started her career with John C Lincoln Hospital as an Emergency Room, RN. She furthered her education and received her BSN from Grand Canyon University in 2010. She excelled at the RN position and was eventually promoted to Prehospital / Law Enforcement EMS Coordinator for JCL North Mountain Hospital, working in that position until her surgery.

Kathy was a dedicated, loving mother, stepmother, grandmother and wife. Friends and Family were extremely important to her, but she cherished her children and grandchildren more than can be described. Her love for her babies was a trait that was handed down from her mother to her. Over the years, she had gained an unwavering faith in Jesus. She absolutely loved attending Church at CCV Peoria and enjoyed every second of services there with her family.

Kathy joins her mother Marilyn Ellis in Heaven.

Service is under the care of Shadow Mountain Mortuary. Memorial Service will be held on November 17, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Christ's Church of the Valley, 7007 W Happy Valley Rd, Peoria, AZ.

Rubin Rodriguez Jr. passed away on November 16, 2023. Rubin survived numerous heart attacks, Stage 4 Tonsil Cancer, a quadruple bypass, and finally succumbed to Stage 4 Colon Cancer and lung disease. Rubin was born on July 20, 1960, to Froydis Johansen and Ruben Rodriguez Sr.

Rubin grew up in Rose Park, UT and Burbank, CA where he attended Burbank High School. His passions included competitive swimming, surfing, ultimate frisbee, and skateboarding. Rubin was an entrepreneur at heart. From a young age, he and his friends had various businesses during his time in California. Rubin enlisted as a Marine at 17 years old and served as a helicopter mechanic. He had several opportunities throughout his 30+ years in broadcasting to make friends and associates all over the country, with his favorite being Jackson Hole TV.

Rubin “Happy Pappy” exuded so much life and laughter. His love for his family and dogs made his days memorable. He loved everything that let him feel the wind on his face—whether it was on his skateboard, surfing, riding a motorcycle or a boat, or in his Jeep with the top off and the windows down. He loved being in the mountains, at the beach, or on road trips with his family. Rubin loved to fish and spent many days fishing in Lake Powell, Strawberry, or Big Bear. Rubin loved to ski in his youth with his uncles. He was an excellent pool player, playing in leagues for years that lead to him bringing home a few too many trophies. Rubin had a love for rock ‘n’ roll music and watching football or NASCAR. You could often hear him singing around the house or in the car to Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, or Jimmy Buffet. He loved to listen to music too loud, so he could sing even louder. He was a wannabe chef, an amateur movie critic, and a natural comedian. Rubin loved to make people laugh—nothing brought him more joy than to laugh with others, especially his children. His laugh was loud and contagious and often times made any joke funnier with how hard he made himself laugh. He coined the name “Happy Pappy” because he wanted to be known for being a source of happiness.

Though Rubin battled many health problems in the last several years of his life, his family and close friends made his days worth living. He had many times that he defied the odds to see another day. His absence has been felt by those who knew and loved him.

Rubin is preceded in death by his mother Froydis, sister Vivian Smith, his beloved grandparents, and many other loved ones and dear dogs. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, his father, Ruben, and children Olivia (Casey) Creager, Jordan Wager, Rubin Rodriguez III, and Tristan Quinn Rodriguez, along with his 6 grandchildren and sisters Rita and Sonja and several nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. 

A viewing will be held Friday, November 24th from 6 PM-8 PM at Russon Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street Farmington, UT. The funeral will be held Saturday, November 25th at 10 AM at Russon Mortuary in Farmington. An additional viewing will take place prior to the service on Saturday morning from 9 AM to 9:45 AM.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Brothers Mortuary Facebook page and on this obituary page. The live stream will begin 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.

Rubin was passionate about bringing awareness to the hardship that fighting cancer can cause. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.

Betty Jo Wissmann, 52, born on October 10, 1960, in Van Nuys, California, passed away December 20, 2012. She resided in Burbank at the time of her passing. 

She was a loving wife and mother, sister,aunt and most of all grandmother to her two grandson's.

Teen charged in death of his father

BURBANK — Burbank police officers on Wednesday arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the Nov. 29, 2008 death of his father, Timothy Loock, assistant football coach at Burbank High School.

Noah Loock faces one felony count of involuntary manslaughter and was released from custody on $25,000 bond. He is due back in Pasadena Superior Court on July 16, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. Nov. 29, when police responded to a fight at the family home on the 1800 block of North Avon Street.

“After a couple of punches, the father fell to the ground,” Burbank Police Sgt. Robert Quesada said.

Timothy Loock, 48, was rendered unconscious and was transported to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Noah Loock fled the scene of the fight Nov. 29 and was taken into custody later that day and booked on suspicion of killing his father, Quesada said.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office filed no charges at that time, and the investigation continued until the Los Angeles County coroner’s office ruled the cause of death as homicide.

The Dec. 2 autopsy revealed that Timothy Loock died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head and neck, said coroner-investigator Denise Bertone.

The county district attorney’s office filed one count of involuntary manslaughter, and an arrest warrant was issued Wednesday.

“Because of the unknown nature of the circumstances, the actual length of the sentence varies and depends on what they look at,” Quesada said.

The Loock family could not be reached for comment.

Timothy Loock worked in the entertainment industry on post-production for 30 years, according to his profile on the Internet Movie Database.

An all-league wide receiver for the class of 1978 at Burbank High, he went on to coach receivers and defensive backs until his death last season. Noah Loock graduated from Burroughs High School in 2008. His Facebook profile was rendered inactive.

SON WILL NOT GET JAIL TIME

"Noah Loock was sentenced to eight days in jail, but will not spend additional time behind bars based on credit for time served, prosecutors said. The deal specifies that he spend three years on probation, complete 120 hours of community service and attend anger management classes."

Teresa Ann Rocha, age 59, of Burbank, California passed in peace on Friday, January 31st after battling cancer for over 37 years with heroic grace, humor and dignity. 

She graduated from Burbank High School in 1978. She enjoyed traveling the world (Hawaii and London had a special place in her heart). She loved Dodger baseball, British period piece films and her pets, Angie and Gabby.

She worked for Friendly International Travel for 39 years (first as an employee and then as the owner of the business for over 33 years). Many of her clients became her dearest friends because she had a genuine interest in their lives, a kind heart, and a deep interest in helping them.She was admired by all for her fighting spirit in battling cancer. She had a no-nonsense, common sense approach to life which will be sorely missed. 

She is survived by her brother, Gary Rocha, partner of 16 years, Nancy Nichols,and dearest friends, Diane and Martin Powers. Teresa was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Lorraine Rocha. 

A memorial service will be held February 10, 2020 at 6:00 pm in the Little Church of the Flowers at Forest Lawn, Glendale. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Cabrini Mission Foundation (222 E. 19th Street, Suite 5E, New York, N.Y. 10003).

Kristy (Bebrich) Briskin, 58, passed away on June 10, 2019 in Marietta, GA, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Glendale, CA, and was raised in Burbank, graduating from Burbank High School in 1978. 

She is survived by her life partner Michael Willhite, parents Walt Bebrich and Nora Bebrich, sister Kim (Eric) Eberhart, brother Brent Bebrich, and nephew Joshua Eberhart. 

Prior to her illness, Kristy was always on the go and loved to travel. One of her favorite trips was a photographic African safari. Her successful career in the shoe industry, and as an entrepreneur, brought her great joy. In addition to her passion for travel and fashion, she loved animals and donated time to her local SPCA. On March 22, 2016,  Jim Milz went to take a nap, resting for an upcoming surgery. He didn't wake up. Jim passed in his sleep that day.

Jim is beloved by his family and friends who know him and will remember him as, among many other things, loving, caring, fun-loving, funny, and mischievous.

Jim treated everyone as family. He was always available to help. He demonstrated a "you-first" attitude. Always asking about you, making sure you were alright, before he took care of himself. A loving family man, always so proud of his kids and grandkids.

Jim was a sweet person, a trusted friend, without an ounce of malice in his heart.

Jim was always up for fun, ready to go on little or no notice.

We will miss him dearly. God's speed, and rest in peace our son, our brother, our father, our grandfather, our friend, Jim Milz.

Chip is the only son of Margaret "Betty" and Preston "Pete" Vaden. He was born in Hollywood, California, and raised in Burbank, California. Chip participated in the Indian Guides with his father, was a member of the children's choir and active in the youth group at the United Methodist Church in Burbank. He played varsity basketball for Burbank High School, and went with a group from Sunland Baptist Church, to Mexico, to build houses, with Baja Christian Ministries.

 

Chip earned an AA Degree from Glendale College, owned his own pool-cleaning business and had just finished writing a book.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Pete, in 1996. He is survived by his mother, Betty; sister, Patti De Las Casas and her husband Armando. Chip had two nieces, Elizabeth and Jessica (Jason); two nephews, Daniel and David; and one great niece, Kayla. Chip was a kind-hearted soul who would do anything to help someone in need. He will be truly missed and the love from his family will follow him into eternity.

TEMECULA: Late coach saluted by team, others

A vigil Saturday in Temecula will honor longtime and well-loved youth baseball and basketball coach Pat Webster.

This week, family members and friends sat around the kitchen table in a Temecula home pouring over pictures of Mr. Webster, who died suddenly of an apparent heart attack in his home office on Jan. 13. He was 51.

“He was such a wonderful son,” Mr. Webster’s mother, Doris Van Buren said as she choked back tears. “As a child, I never had to tell him to do his homework or anything at all. He was a self starter and always helped others.”

The 2 p.m. vigil is at Hope Lutheran Church in Temecula.

Jan. 13 started out like many days at the Webster household. Mr. Webster’s wife, Gaby, shuttled the kids to school and said goodbye to her husband of 18 years before she headed out to run errands. “It was a normal day, nothing seemed out of the ordinary,” she said, sobbing. She added that they both had recently lost a fair amount of weight and enjoyed a healthy lifestyle and diet.

In the afternoon, the Websters’ 12-year-old son Cade returned from school and ran into his father’s office to greet him. “Cade called out to me and said that Dad looked like he was sleeping at his desk and didn’t look right,” Gaby Webster said. She said that she ran in and realized her husband was in grave condition and immediately called 911.

“Cade ran to a neighbor’s house for help,” she said.

Mr. Webster had been a fixture in the baseball community for the past seven years and often managed and coached teams. “You never know when you meet someone what role they will play in your life,” Mr. Webster’s close friend and coaching partner Rob Hays said. “We met on the field and became the best of friends.”

Sports played an important role in Mr. Webster’s life. He was a high school basketball star at Burbank High School. “He attended the John Wooden sports camp and was given the nickname Mr. Hustle,” Van Buren said. “He was always active and always into sports.” Mr. Webster still holds a basketball record for the Burbank Recreational Center for successfully making 38 free-throws in a row in 1972.

As for the travel ball baseball team he coached with Hays, it will continue. The Temecula Tritons played in a baseball tournament that began the day after Mr. Webster’s death. They pointed skyward in his memory. Then they won the championship. “I put this team together for a great group of athletic boys and great coaches,” Hays said. “We are a baseball family and Pat will be greatly missed.”

HIGH SPEED ACCIDENT KILLS 2

Two Burbank youths were killed Sunday night, November 7, 1977 in a high-speed traffic accident on a winding stretch of Angeles Forest Highway above La Crescenta, authorities said.

According to a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol, the youths were traveling southbound, about two miles north of Angeles Crest Highway, when the accident occurred about 11:30 p.m.

The two were identified as James Michael Linkletter, 17, of 621 Irving Drive, and his passenger, William Inhelder IV, 16, of 620 Jamestown Road. Authorities said the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when Linkletter lost control, causing the car to strike the mountainside and overturn in the roadway.

The driver was ejected while Inhelder was pinned beneath the car when it came to rest upside down in the northbound lanes, officers said.

BURBANK -- Darin August Esper, a former sports writer for the Burbank Leader and Los Angeles Times, died Nov. 25, 2001, at his family's Burbank home. He was 40.

Esper is remembered by his colleagues as a well-rounded sports writer who could cover anything from high school sports to professional auto racing. "When it came to local sports knowledge, there was nobody that knew more than Darin Esper," said Jeff Tully, the Leader's sports editor. "Along with the sports knowledge, he was always a very nice person."

In his reporting for the Times, Esper covered the Long Beach Grand Prix and the California 500 in Fontana. "Motor sports was his passion," said Mike Kupper, the Times' senior assistant sports editor, who sometimes went on assignments with Esper. "Darin was a very hard worker. Nothing got between him and what he wanted to get done," Kupper said.

Born Jan. 18, 1961, in Santa Monica, Esper was a lifelong resident of Burbank. Although he didn't participate in sports in high school, choosing instead to play the French horn in the school band, he was an avid sports fan. "Since he was a Burbank graduate and came from a sports family, his knowledge was invaluable when he worked for me at the paper," Tully said.

It was Esper's brother Damin who preceded Tully as the paper's sports editor. Esper's dad, Dwain, is a sports writer and announcer. "All of us in this family are not athletic, but we admire sports," Dwain Esper said.

Esper is survived by his parents, Dwain and Diane Esper, and his brothers Damin and Dilan.

BURBANK -- A day after a Burbank man was stabbed to death in the city's first homicide of the year, police Wednesday said they have a suspect in custody.

Glen Giles , 47, was found dead across the street from his home after making it to the porch of a neighbor's house where he had apparently gone to seek help, police said. Police late Wednesday would not release the name of the suspect, saying it might jeopardize their investigation. At this point, (investigators) just need to make sure that all the loose ends are tied up,'' said Sgt. Travis Irving, spokesman for the Burbank Police Department.

Investigators were still trying to determine the motive for the slaying, Irving said. His body was discovered 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 3000 block of Joaquin Drive, in a quiet hillside area of Burbank. Giles worked in business- to-business publishing, and news of his death spread quickly among colleagues. Many who knew Giles wondered how such a crime could have occurred to the 6-foot-4 former varsity basketball player.

``I just don't understand it,'' said Jim Kuchinsky, 55, president and CEO of Hallmark Data Systems, the company Giles worked for. ``He'd be the kind of guy who would swat someone (who attacked him) away pretty quick. I just don't understand it, and none of us can get over that part of it. How someone could do something like that is beyond me,'' he said.

Giles worked as director of new business development in a Burbank office for Illinois-based Hallmark Data. Christine Oldenbrook of San Pedro, who also works in publishing, knew Giles for 27 years. Oldenbrook said she last saw Giles a week ago when they were returning from a Miami business conference.

In January, Giles organized a youth basketball competition at an Elks Lodge. ``He was so proud of it,'' Oldenbrook said. ``He called me right afterwards and said he really felt like he was doing something he loved and was giving back.'' Giles was single, with two sisters and a mother, and he was close to his family, Oldenbrook said.

Police today expect to release the name of the man they arrested.
