Eddys Lee Beasley Rough, BHS 1941

Eddys Lee Beasley Rough, BHS 1941

1 May 1923 - 14 Aug 2021

Eddys Lee Rough (nee Beasley) passed away August 14, 2021 in Chico, California at the age of 98. She was born to Edgar and Emily Beasley in Burbank, California, May 1, 1923. Her parents and her younger brother Alfred predeceased her.

She enjoyed a long and loving marriage of over 70 years to Charles Lamont Rough who predeceased her in 2012. Beloved by her family, she is survived by her two sons Charles (Patricia) and Richard (Mandy); six grandsons James, Sean (Kendall), Charles (Genevieve), Jonathan (Kaitlin), Christopher, & Alexander; and nine great-grand-children. She was also blessed with five step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Her husband Charles always remarked on the moment when he first saw Eddys at a DeMolay dance where she was wearing a turban in the style of Lana Turner and dancing her heart out. When they started dating, they both enjoyed spending evenings out in Hollywood listening and dancing to the big bands. Her love of music is a legacy that passed to her sons and continues to enrich their lives to this day.

She graduated from Burbank High School in 1941. Eddys and Charles were married April 5, 1942 in Montecito, CA. While her husband was in Europe fighting in World War II, she worked at Disney Studios in Burbank during a period when Disney was not only creating many of their animated classics, but also producing films to support the war effort. During this time she met and worked with many of the creative talents and contributors to those classics. When the war ended, she welcomed her husband home with joy and open arms as they began their life together.

Besides raising two sons with her husband, she was engaged in many volunteer activities over the years. Her favorite was serving as a volunteer coordinator for over 23 years with the American Red Cross. It was there that she made many dear and lasting friends. Her Christian faith and resiliency were legend, most recently surviving the Camp Fire in 2018 that destroyed the Town of Paradise. where she was living at the time.

During the last year of her life, she had said that she was ready to go to the Lord and be reunited with her husband Charles. Her family is certain God granted her wish. Her family would like to thank Windchime Assisted Living in Chico and Butte Home Health & Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of Eddys.

There will be an internment of her ashes at the Beasley family plot in the San Gabriel Cemetery on September 13, 2021 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the American Red Cross.

EX-BURBANKER SLAIN IN NEVADA HOLDUP

A Burbank High School graduate was one of three persons killed Tuesday August 29, 1967, in the $35, 000 robbery of a bank at Overton, Nevada, a small town near Las Vegas.

The victim was Mrs. Betty Heitmann, 44, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Blanchard, of 421 N. Lomita.

Mrs. Heitmann, a 1941 graduate of Burbank High School, had three daughters, Martha, 24, of Burbank; and Betty Lou, 12, and Barbara, 15, both of whom were visiting their grandmother here at the time of the slaying.

Arrested in connection with the murders of the two women clerks and the bank manager was Terry Lynn Conger, 23, a construction worker. He was arrested in Las Vegas Wednesday on three counts of murder, and held without bail.

A major search is still under way by the Clark County, Nevada Sheriff's office to find evidence in the case, including all but $2,000 of the stolen money which was found in a farmhouse.

The robbery was staged just before closing time at the one-story bank on Main Street. Investigators said "the bodies of the victims were stacked like cordwood" in the vault. They were all shot in the back of the head.

Milton L. Hall. BHS 1941

At the long age of 95, Milton L. Hall passed away June 3rd, 2019 at Stoney Brook, in Belton, Texas, with his family holding his hands.

He was born on August 13th, 1923 to Ira S. Hall and Chlora Pearl Warne Hall in Long Beach, California. He spent his youth in southern California in the Los Angeles area, enjoying hiking with the Boy Scouts, including a climb to the peak of Mount Whitney. He graduated from Burbank High School and worked the next two years in retail in the area.

In 1943, he joined the military, first in the regular Army, then transferred to the Army Air Corp, serving proudly as a transport pilot in the Troop Carrier Command until October, 1945. He was stationed at numerous military bases in the mid-U.S., including Sedalia, Mo., which lead to the meeting of his future wife, Phyllis Hauenstein, of Tuscumbia, Mo., whom he married March 17th, 1945 in Vincennes, Indiana.

Milton and Phyllis moved to Oregon near family, after Milton was honorably discharged in October, 1945, and they built a house in the woods with their own four hands and lots of initiative. It was in Grants Pass, Oregon that Pamela was born and Milton learned bookkeeping, which began his accounting career.

Next the family moved to Kansas City, nearer Phyllis’ relatives, and the family grew with the addition of David and Steven.

Eying an opportunity in Houston, Texas, Milton and Phyllis packed up once again, to begin a long association with the petroleum industry. He took accounting courses and also taught himself the complexities of the petroleum business, through much self-study. In Houston, the fourth child, Jeffrey, was born, completing the family.

Milton and Phyllis were part of a group that helped start a Methodist church in Houston, with many of their lifelong friends.

In 1983 Milton and Phyllis moved to Colorado, so that Milton could join StratSeis as Vice-President of Finance, which he continued until retirement.

Phyllis and Milton retired to the quieter life in Eldon, Missouri and began a lively renewal of friendships from Phyllis’ childhood. They were active in many church festivities and community service organizations and enjoyed golfing regularly at the country club with friends.

Later, Milton and Phyllis began to spend winters in McAllen, Texas, with Pamela and her husband David, and eventually stayed full-time, taking advantage of the warm weather and family support. Milton stayed there until after Phyllis’ death in 2005, then moved to Belton, Texas.
