Chestertown- Carolyn Sue Konig 74, passed away peacefully Sunday June 29, 2025 at the Warren Center Nursing Home in Queensbury. 

Sue was pre-deceased by her parents Charles and Betty Marn, her foster parents, George and Edith Keys and her brother Gary Marn.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Richard Konig, step-sister Semone, sister-in-law Lynne, brother-in-law John, niece Jean and nephew Mike . 

Sue was a native of Burbank, California. She graduated from Burbank High School and attended the Los Angeles Fashion Institute.

Sue was an avid music fan and performed as a back-up-singer in the "off Broadway" production of "Hair" from 1968 through 1972.

She and her husband moved  to Chestertown, New York from Arizona in 2012 where she volunteered at the Chestertown Library book sales.

Myron E. Mikkelson, Sr. 1949 ~ 2007

Myron E. Mikkelson, Sr., loving husband and father, passed away Dec. 16, 2007 at the age of 57, at the Salt Lake City Veteran's Hospital. He was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on November 2, 1949. 

Myron will be greatly missed by his wife, Elena; son, Gene Mikkelson and his wife Jennifer; and grandchildren, Julian and Jeanette. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Murray 8th Ward, 4600 S. 160 E. Friends and family may attend the viewing at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary on Thursday, Dec. 20th from 6-8 p.m. and Friday at the church from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment: Utah Veteran's Memorial Park.

Kathleen Mary O'Rell Schaedler passed away on May 11, 2022 after a 3 year battle with cancer.

Kathy was born February 12, 1950 to Bob and Mary O'Rell. She was the eldest of 3 children. Kathy was born in Chicago, Illinois, but after a year the family moved to Burbank, California, where she lived the remaining 71 years.

Kathy was a graduate of Burbank High School, Class of 1968. She began working at the Burbank Unified School District in 1969, starting as an intern in the work experience program. She retired from the school district in 2005 after 37 years.

Kathy met the love of her life in 1968. Gary Schaedler and Kathy were married in February 1969 (53 years). In retirement they enjoyed boating and camping.

Kathy leaves behind her husband Gary, their daughter Jennifer and her brother, Brian, along with many lifelong friends. Kathy will be missed, but never forgotten! May she rest in peace.

Ronald John Dandy, 58, Topeka, Kansas died Saturday, February 13, 2010, at his home. He was born October 14, 1951, in Sacramento, California, the son of Wm. B. and Mildred A. (Reber) Dandy.

He received a BS in Mathematics from University of Redlands and was a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries. Ron worked for 26 years at Security Benefit.

He was an Elder at Rolling Hills Christian Church. He was an Eagle Scout; had been a Boy Scout Scoutmaster; and had Wood Badge training. Ron had volunteered with the Girl Scouts and 4-H.

He was married to Linda L. Chapman on June 16, 1973, at Redondo Beach, California. She survives.

Also surviving are 3 children: Jonathan Dandy of Independence, Missouri, Mary Kathryn Argeropoulos of Paola, and Veronica Dockery of Gentry, Arkansas; his mother: Mildred Dandy of Ventura, California; a brother: Bruce Dandy of Oxnard, California; a sister: Cynthia Bali of Bradenton, Florida; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, Tues., Feb. 16, 2010, at Rolling Hills Christian Church.

Private interment of cremains will be in Prairie Home Cemetery.

Ann Rickard posted today, "So sad about Ken, we were good chums in Hawaii. Both of us living a sustainable, off grid organic lifestyle. He ate some produce contaminated with Rat/lung worm, which attacked his CNS. Hospitalized over a year, intubated, finally quit eating and asked them to pull the plug...Hard, painful and sad...RIP dear friend. I didn't know about Gene...😢"

Ken has 3 siblings: Tess/Terri BHS '69, Gene BHS '71 and Joel BHS '73. The family lived down the street from me on the corner of Tujunga Ave and 9th St. in Burbank, Calif.

Kay suffered from Lupus for many years. During her first few years of life she was diagnosed with melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer. Because of her lupus, the doctors didn't really know how to treat the cancer, which rapidly spread to her lungs.

She underwent experimental treatment at the Norris Cancer Center as a last resort. This treatment was not successful and Kay died a week before her 54th birthday. 

Kay was a special education teacher in the Burbank schools. I believe one of her last teaching jobs was at John Burroughs High School. When she was forced to retire early because of her lupus, she volunteered at the Burbank Temporary Aid Center. 

Kay and I knew each other from the time we were 1 years old. She's now been gone for several years. I miss her very much. (sent in by Laurie Eisenberg to the Class of 1968)

Richard E. Franco,, age 57, of Pompano Beach, FL. passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at a local hospital.

He was the owner of Franco's Cocktail Mixes for the past 31 years, a member of the Pompano Beach Exchange Club, the National Food Distributor Assoc. and the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America.

He was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas Franco; and his sister, Arlene Ann Franco. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Brenda; mother, Arlene Nicholson; brother, Michael (Julia) Franco; and a circle of close relatives and friends.

Teacher Gets Probation in Drug Case

A Burbank high school teacher who admitted to repeated use of cocaine in school, while claiming his drug habit did not violate professional ethics, was sentenced to probation, officials said Thursday.

Los Angeles County Municipal Judge Rand Rubin conditionally sentenced Richard Bedigan, 47, to probation--an outcome that could lead to any criminal record for the Burroughs High School science teacher being expunged. Bedigan, who was the junior varsity girls tennis coach, was ordered to complete a two-year drug counseling and testing program.

Neither Rubin nor Bedigan could be reached for comment.

Bedigan has been on unpaid leave from his job since his arrest in October after he was observed taking cocaine in his Burroughs High classroom after his students had gone to lunch.

Bedigan admitted to regular use of cocaine on school grounds, according to court documents.

“He [Bedigan] does not feel that he ever violated the spirit of his profession,” according to the probation report prepared by Walter Kelly, the Los Angeles County probation officer who handled Bedigan’s case. “This writer strongly disagrees and would have grave concerns if this defendant returned to being a teacher.”

Prosecutors said probation is the normal sentence for first offenders.

“If he fails the program, if he tests positive for drug use, if he blows it at all, he’s looking at three years in prison,” said Craig Mitchell, deputy district attorney assigned to the case.

School officials said they will seek to fire Bedigan, a seven-year veteran of the Burbank Unified School District.

Mitchell called the outcome pretty standard, because Bedigan had no priors.

The city’s education code stipulates that drug use is a dismissible offense, said Bob Fraser, district director of personnel, explaining the district’s decision to begin the termination process.

A Burbank resident and 1968 Burbank High School alum, Bedigan has maintained his silence since his arrest and has kept the shades drawn at his home, a block away from Burbank High.

Edward Bedigan, Richard’s father, served as assistant superintendent of the Burbank school district for 10 years until his retirement in 1973. He died of cancer in 1992. The elder Bedigan began his career as an educator in the same high school where his son was arrested.

Bedigan’s guilty plea is the latest in a series of personnel problems faced by the Burbank school district in the last three years.

NOTE: Richard ended up turning his life around and was clean, It is not an easy task to do and very few drug users succeed. Richard's family can be very proud of him. But because using drugs did take a toll on Richard's body and later caused other health issues which led to his death. May he rest in peace.

The body of a Goleta man was found early Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Ellwood Station Road at Calle Real, just off the freeway.

The man, identified as Steven Douglas Howland, 27, 148 San Marino, was found by some young children at 12:40 p.m., according to Tom Nelson, coroner’s investigator.

Howland, his brother and a friend had apparently been running from the Calle Real side of Highway 101 to the Hollister Ave side, Nelson explained at “around 1 a.m.”  “The boys said they “lost track of where he was,” and continued on to Fubar (a bar on Hollister Ave). They said they figured he went home.” 

Nelson described the victim as “tripping in the dark.” “He probably struck his head on a concrete culvert pipe,” said Larry Gillespie, chief deputy coroner. “He was not struck by an automobile.” Both Gillespie and Nelson said Howland had apparently jumped over the fence and fell.

When the victim’s brother and friend saw CHP cars and sheriff’s cars at the scene Thursday, they “came over and gave the information,” Nelson said.

Both spokesmen for the coroner said that the area of the freeway, from Ellwood Station at Calle Real to Ellwood Station at Hollister, seemed to be a “quite common route.” The fence near the scene of the death “was bent down and all messed up.” Both men labeled the death a “freak accident,” and stressed the path is a dangerous area for pedestrians.

Alfred Randall "Randy" Prescott passed away on November 17, 2023, in Alexandria, Virginia, at 73 years of age.  He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Diane Prescott; his children Tracy Egelin, Jenny Prescott, Teddy Prescott, Christie Prescott, and Katie Poling; his sons-in-law Mike Egelin and Paul Poling; his daughter-in-law Stephanie Prescott; his grandchildren Ethan Mendez and Liam Prescott; his first wife and mother of his daughter Tracy, Merrily Prescott; and his sister Terry Prescott Collings.

On April 19, 1950, Randy was born in Burbank, California to Alfred Clayton Prescott and Doris Mills Prescott.  He joined his sisters Terry Prescott Collings and Carole Prescott Smith.  Randy graduated from Burbank High, where he excelled in mathematics and on the golf team.  He then attended UC Irvine, where he majored in mathematics and lived with friends on Balboa Island, one of his favorite spots in Orange County.  He loved shenanigans and once infamously brought a cow into his dorm as a joke. 

Randy had a long career as a software engineer in the aerospace industry, working at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and for Univac, Lockheed, and then The Boeing Company, where he spent 25 years.  He was passionate about his work, which included projects related to satellites, missile defense, and fighter jets, among others.
It was at JPL where Randy met Diane DeFranco, and they married in August 1987.  They moved to Orange County, California in 1988, where they raised their kids by the beach and attended Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.  The family relocated to Alexandria, Virginia between 2011 and 2012 when Randy began a job in missile defense.

Since retiring in 2014, Randy was very involved in his new community in Alexandria, Virginia.  He devoted much of his time to volunteer work—tutoring children in reading and math, teaching at-risk youth how to build boats, leading classes on computer literacy for adults, and providing animal therapy with his beloved Australian Shepherd, Josie.  He also spent most mornings taking Josie on long walks and spending time at the park with his dog-loving friends.

Randy was an outgoing, fun-loving Californian, always finding adventures and bringing humor wherever he went.  He loved spending every free moment outdoors, especially catamaran racing, kayaking, hiking, skiing, biking, and camping.  Some of his other favorite activities included playing guitar, telling humorous stories, competing in (and watching his children play) sports, and taking family on trips.

The two most important things in Randy's life were his faith and his family.  He was very involved in church throughout his life and he raised his children to be faithful and know God.  He particularly loved attending events at Calvary and reading the Charles Stanley Devotional Bible.  He also made sure his kids knew the importance of classic rock and the superiority of Seinfeld as a TV show.  Thanks to Randy, Diane's and his kids' lives were full of adventures ranging from beach camping in San Diego, to many trips to Disneyland, and to hiking in Yosemite.  Randy's most recent joys were helping his grandson Ethan learn to play soccer and meeting his newest grandson, Liam. 
Randy will be remembered for his humor, his large personality, his love for adventure, his intelligence, and his care for his family.

SKELTON IDENTIFIED FROM DENTAL RECORDS

KAILUA-KONA – Police have identified a man whose skeleton was found in a remote area of Kailua-Kona Saturday as Dean Cunningham, 50, of Kailua-Kona, they said.

Cunningham was identified through dental records. An autopsy was unable to determine the cause of death, but there was no sign of foul play. The skeleton was found on a back street by a person looking for rocks to build a wall.

KONA REMAINS ARE IDENTIFIED

KEALAKEHE, Hawaii – Police identified skeletal remains found Saturday as Dean Cunningham, 50, of Kailua-Kona. Cunningham’s family reported him missing on September 13th. Police said the cause of death was not known. An autopsy was conducted Monday at Kona Community Hospital.

A man gathering stones for a rock wall found the remains at the end of Kamaka Eha Street in Kailua-Kona. They were identified through dental records.

On the morning of January 16, 2022, Norm Sabin, of Chattanooga and Crossville, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord at the age of 71, as a result of COVID-related complications.

Norm was born in 1950 to Howard and Helen Sabin. He grew up in Burbank, Ca., and graduated from Burbank High School.  He was an Air Force veteran who served in the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. He had many talents including playing minor league baseball for the Dodgers, being a software engineer in the early days of computer programming, raising quarter horses, and being a military and commercial flight engineer. Later in life he earned his J.D. from Regent University in 1994 and practiced law in Chattanooga and Crossville. In 2008 he formed his own firm specializing in the practice of estate planning. He had a passion for the law and taking care of his clients.

He began every day in prayer and reading his Bible. He loved the Lord, his family, golf, and sitting on the front porch after work with a cigar and a good book. He lived a life of integrity with unshakeable conviction, rooted in justice and the truth of God’s word.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dennis Sabin.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; children Zak (DeAyn) Sabin, Kelsey Sabin, and Daris (Kent) Freeman; grandchildren, Joshua (Emily) Longbrook, Madyson, Elleanor, and Olivia Sabin; and great-grandchildren, Judah, Luke, Josiah, and Noble Longbrook.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home
