AUTOPSY ORDERED IN POISON DEATH OF BURBANK STUDENT

An autopsy was pending today in the death of William Bruce Ruff, 17, Burbank High School student, who police listed as a suicide.

According to the Burbank police report, young Ruff telephoned his grandmother, Mrs. Anna Bruce, of 416 E. Providencia ave., and told her he was sick. She hurried to his home at 422 E. Elmwood ave., and the youth admitted taking a dose of ant poison mixed with table syrup Saturday night.

Mrs. Bruce gave him an antidote, prescribed by their family physician, and the youth slept through the night well enough.

Apparently recovering from the dosage, he was given a glass of milk yesterday, returned to bed, and a few moments later he was found unconscious by his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Ruckle, and Mrs. Bruce. The boy died in spite of 40-minutes effort by an inhalator squad and a physician. The body was taken to Eckerman’s mortuary pending autopsy.
