Donna was born on December 13, 1944, in Burbank , California and passed away on January 3, 2012, in Westlake Village, California, at the age of 67. She lived and attended school in Burbank , graduating from Burbank High School in 1963.

Donna married Grant Finster in 1965 and they moved to Newbury Park shortly after they got married, where they soon started a family. First, daughter Josephine was born in 1967 and two years later, son Jeffrey would join the family. They were very active in the Church of Latter-Day Saints ward and made life-long friends. Camping at Leo Cabrillo Beach was a favorite activity that Donna, her family and her LDS family and friends enjoyed for many years and some are still enjoying to this day.

After marrying Lawrence Watkins in 1974, Donna gave birth to daughter Amy in 1975. She and her family moved to Las Vegas, Utah and back to California, where she was the happiest, being closer to her many friends.

Donna loved collecting turtles, live, ceramic, and wooden, at one time had over 1000 turtles in her collection. She also was a very talented seamstress, making clothes and costumes for her children and grandchildren. Another passion was baking, particularly gingerbread houses at Christmas time. She especially enjoyed teaching others how to make this holiday decoration.

Donna was a loving and giving person and loved her family and friends with all her heart, especially her children and grandchildren. Surviving Donna are daughter Jodi (husband Kevin) Keller of Newbury Park, son Jeff Finsterof Hesperia, and daughter Amy (partner/wife Gia de Leon)Watkins of Rancho Cucamonga. Grandchildren include Cassity Keller, Rachel Williams, Michael and Jared Finster.

Also surviving Donna are sisters Diana Johnson, Dawn Livingston and brother David Cooper along with many nieces and nephews. With friends too numerous to name, we'd like to acknowledge the Peterson's , the Barker's, Kenny Estep and Helen Belsheim Moore as some of Donna's most treasured people in her life.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 6, 2012, at the Newbury Park Stake Building, Newbury Park, with viewing at 1 p.m. and services beginning at 2 p.m. Internment will be Monday, January 9th, time will be given upon request, at the Green Hills Cemetery in Rancho Palos Verdes. Michael Alan Tideback passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012, at his home in Lake Isabella, CA. He was 62.

A friend of Mike's, who had talked to him two days earlier, was not able to reach him on Monday morning. He then went to Mike's home about 10:00 A.M. and discovered that Mike was deceased.

The Kern County Coroner's Office believes that Mike passed away earlier the same day that his friend found him, Monday the 9th. The Kern County Coroner was to conclude their testing today, and believes Mike's death to be due to natural causes, probably a heart attack.

Mike Tideback was born in Iowa on February 28, 1949 to George and Frances Tideback. He had one younger brother, Bill Tideback (BHS '68), who was born May 2, 1950. In 1960 the family moved from Iowa to Southern California, first living in Glendale. When the family moved to Burbank Mike was in 8th grade, and Bill was in 7th grade, at John Muir. They lived on Reese Place, between Glenoaks and Tulare. That is where they lived the rest of their years growing up, and where their parents lived until both of their deaths.

George Tideback worked for the L.A. Unified School District as the Athletic Director at Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley for many years, and until his retirement. George passed away in 1998.

Soon after Mike finished at BHS he was drafted by the Army and went to Viet Nam in the late 1960's. Once his service was complete he returned to Burbank and began working. He worked for the same company for many, many years in a supervisory position, and continued to live in Burbank through the years. Within the last couple of years Mike retired. In February of 2011 he moved from Burbank to Lake Isabella, and had been very happy living there. Mike never married and did not have children.

Mike was predeceased by his father George; his mother, Frances Tideback, on July 30, 2010 at age 83; and his younger brother, Bill Tideback, on April 13, 2008 at age 57. He is survived by his niece, Alison Tideback Castaneda (Bill's daughter), her husband, Bob Castaneda, BHS '94, and their three children, Joshua, Matthew, and Emily, all of Glendale.

A private memorial will be held for Mike by Alison and her family. Mike's cremated remains will be placed in the family niche at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills to join his father, mother, and brother.

Lavina Anderson, beloved wife, mother and friend, was born Levina Oris Archuletta on February 8, 1940 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With her parents Levi Archuletta and Oris Hill, the family settled with their only child Lavina in Burbank, California.

Growing up she made many friends from Washington Elementary, Burbank High School and Valley College where she was a member of the Delta Phi Sorority.

In 1962 Lavina married Blayney Nils Anderson. The couple traveled often, including road trips up the Pacific Coast into Canada and a month long tour of Europe. They once visited their favorite destination, Yosemite National Park, over 26 times in one year. Then in 1965, Lavina gave birth to their only child Lance Courtney. The family continued to travel, often times to the family cabin in Big Bear.

Over the years Lavina became a cherished “Team Mother” for Lance’s Little League Baseball teams. With her friends, Lavina shared her sharp sense of humor and her lifetime love of cooking, cards, movies and the holidays.

During Lavina’s final years of life, she fought bravely against several medical conditions, including enduring over 10 years of dialysis. Despite these challenges she enjoyed life to the fullest, including six trips to the Hollywood Bowl this past Summer.

On the day after Christmas, with her faithful husband by her side, Lavina passed away on the morning of December 26, 2010 at St. Josephs Hospital in Burbank. Lavina’s Celebration of Life memorial was held at Descanso Gardens on March 6, 2011 and was well attended by family and friends.

Skip Flinders, 72, passed away Nov. 21, 2011, at his home in Providence, Utah, after a valiant three-year battle with prostate and bone cancer. He lived more than a year longer than the oncologist thought he would.

He was born Jan. 19, 1939, in Glendale, Calif., to Frederick Roy and Elsie Marie Malan Flinders. He graduated from Burbank High School. Except for two years serving an LDS mission and two years in the Army at Fort Bragg, N.C. (he received an honorable discharge from the Army Reserves in 1967), Skip lived in Burbank, Calif., until 1992, then moved to Providence, Utah.

He married Lynne Michele De Mille Fannin on Sept. 21, 1962, which resulted in the birth of a son, Russell Dean Flinders, on June 2, 1964. Their marriage ended in divorce.

He married Carole Lynn Pulley on March 14, 1970, having two sons: Craig "R" Flinders on April 30, 1971, and Brian "L" Flinders on July 15, 1973. The marriage ended with Carole's death Nov. 24, 1989.

He married Janet Skidmore on Oct. 13, 1990. With the move to Providence, Utah, on Nov. 17, 1992, they began their retired lives doing community service. They helped many charitable organizations: Kiwanis Club of Logan, Eccles Theatre, Cache County Chapter of the American Red Cross, USU Aggie Auction Committee, Cache Employment & Training Center's Christmas Party and their 50th celebration this last summer, Utah Festival Opera Guild, the Key Club's booth at the Cache County Fair (Rubber Duckie Derbies), and joined the Hyde Park Lions Club last January.Skip worked 36 years for his father in the Flinders Insurance Agency in Burbank.

He enjoyed his first deer hunt in 1994 and got his first buck in 1995. Traveling and the out-of-doors were some of the joys in his life, along with ice fishing at Hyrum Dam. He attended all but one of the yearly Kiwanis International Conventions since 1995. This year it was in Geneva, Switzerland. He and Janet were able to travel to Switzerland, France, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Holland and Germany. His favorite meal during that 21 days was at the Geneva Airport at Burger King.
He was preceded in death by his baby sister, Elaine Marie Flinders, and his parents.

He is survived by his three sons, Russell in Florida, Craig in Wisconsin and Brian in Providence, Utah; ex-wife in Cody, Wyo.; current wife; sister, Evelyn LaVerne Harris in Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; his brothers, Robert Frederick in Agua Dulce, Calif., William Oscar in Burbank, Calif., and Charles Steven in Burbank, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Providence 10th Ward chapel, 355 Canyon Road. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E. 400 North, Logan. A viewing will also be held prior to the service from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the ward building. Interment will be at the Providence Cemetery in River Heights, Utah.

Shirley (Madden) Blocher 1928-2011

Born May 4, 1928 to Tom and Irene Madden in Griswold, Iowa, Shirley moved with her family to Burbank, California in 1939. She met Dwain Blocher when they both were at Burbank High School. After graduation Dwain served in the Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1945. they were married in 1944. Trusting God, Shirley said it was the best decision she ever made.

Then when the war ended, Dwain went to school to become a dentist while Shirley worked as a telephone operator. Once Dwain had his own practice, she worked in his office.

Preceded in death by parents, sister, Marilyn and in 2003 her husband Dwain, she is survived by daughter Rene'e Cavender and husband Bill, son Paul Blocher and wife Dianne, daughter Allie Cossio and husband Daniel, sisters Suzanne Dennis, Mary Foucault and husband Jack, Tomi Smith and husband Gary, eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and dear nieces and nephews.

Robert D. "Bob" Richards passed away at his home in Lander Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 4, 2011. He was 83. Military Honors are at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Fremont County Veterans' Memorial at the courthouse in Lander. Military honors will be by the Lander Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Robert Duane Richards was born in Norfolk, Neb., on May 17, 1928, the son of Chas and Irene (Green) Richards. At the age of three, the family moved to Burbank, Calif. He resided there until 2006 when the family moved to Lander. In 1950, he was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 21. He attained the rank of Sergeant as a forward observer. He returned stateside in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married Pavilowa Ruth Ann "Peggy" Bickel on March 19, 1954, at the Methodist Church in Burbank, Calif.

Bob was a professional truck driver working as a teamster for 33 years. He started as a machinist, was a mechanic, and drove truck for Hostess Bakeries for 32 years. He was a member of the Southwest Administrators Teamsters and a life-member of the National Rifle Association.

His family said Bob collected trains, enjoyed politics, loved fishing, skeet shooting, was a mechanic, enjoyed being the family comedian, loved cars and built race cars as a youngster. They said "his biggest hobby was his family."

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Peggy Richards; daughter, Lucinda "Cindy" Richards; three grandchildren, Guy and Robyn Donovan, Steven and Paula Donovan, and Mandy and Josh Hahn; two great grandchildren, Sean Donovan and Angelina Sisul; all of Lander; sisters-in-law, Betty Romero and Joan During, both of California.

Mr. Richards was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Claire Hoover; a brother, Jerry Richards; and brother-in-law, Robert Bickel. Joseph Goss of Huntington Beach, CA, died following heart valve surgery. Joe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice; son Matthew; daughter Sharilyn Goss Castro, granddaughter Emily Reese Castro, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Reese Stotts Goss, and Eugene M. Goss, his brother Eugene M. Goss Jr., and his sister Mary Goss Barren.

Joe would say he had a great life. He started out poor; he got up at 3A.M. as a youth to deliver the L. A. Times and gave his earnings to his mother. As an adult, Joe has traveled around the world, visited the North Pole, Antarctica and scores of countries and islands in between.

Joe was raised in Burbank, CA, graduating from Burbank High School. He served as an infantryman in Korea in 1951 and earned a BS in Engineering from USC in 1959. While at USC he worked summers at Rocketdyne Division of North American Aircraft Corp. He retired in 1996 from North American Aircraft Division as Vice President. His career began on the J-2 Rocket Engine and progressed with increasing responsibility. He was the B-1B Proposal Manager and upon contract award became Vice President and Associate Program Manager.

Joe climbed and explored the eastern Sierras, California desert ranges and the mountains, mesas and canyons of the Four Corners region. He enjoyed reaching the summits as well finding ancient habitation sites and astronomical observatories. He provided his site survey reports to specialists for detailed exploration of the area.

He will be sorely missed by his loving family and many friends.

Sharon Hansen Cerda class of 1965, passed away on December 1, 2011. Sharon was born on April 27, 1947 in Los Angeles County, California and married Frank H. Cerda on June 4, 1983 in Los Angeles, California.

An avid follower of alumni and BHS activities she spent the past many years volunteering for community and civic organizations in her community.

She was last living in Simi Valley, California.
