Randall "Randy" Nile Ivey, BHS 1970

RANDALL "RANDY" NILE IVEY December 16, 1951 - July 26, 2014 Randy passed away Saturday morning, July 26,2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the rehab facility in North Hills (formerly Sepulveda), where he had been transferred to about five days earlier after five weeks in the hospital since Father's Day, June 15. Randy was born December 16, 1951 in Glendale at Glendale Adventist Hospital, then known as Glendale Sanitarium. He was the middle of three children in the family, just less than a year younger than his sister, Debbie (who later became Debi Dyer), and two years older than his brother, Mike. The family moved to Burbank when Randy was in 4th grade, and he attended 4th, 5th, and 6th grades at Washington Elementary in Burbank, then John Muir and Burbank High. His passing came less than four days after Carole passed away on July 22, and two weeks and a day before their

40th anniversary on August 10. He and Carole were both 62. ------------------------------------------ Randy is survived by his family who loved him very much, daughter Megan; son Travis; daughter-in-law Christine "Tina"; granddaughter Makenna; grandson Gavin; brother Mike Ivey, his wife D'aun, and their family; brother-in-law Jim Dyer and his family; and brother-in-law Roger Starkey, his wife Teresa, and their family. Randy's mother passed away in 1997, his father in 2011, and his sister Debi in 2009. -------------- Saturday morning Randy told his nurse that he was hungry. Later after he had had breakfast the nurse went to his room to check on him, and found that Randy had passed away during the few minutes since she last saw him. After his family was notified of his passing they gathered at his room, along with some of Randy and Carole's closest friends, to all say good-bye to Randy. A couple of days earlier Randy's kids told him about Carole's passing earlier in the week, but they don't think he remembered afterwards that Carole was gone. Randy and Carole became a couple in 9th grade in 1967, and now left as a couple only four days apart 47 years later. ----------------- Travis and Megan have not decided when and where a memorial gathering will be held for their parents. They are planning to take Randy and Carole's cremated remains to Hawaii to scatter them there. Travis told me he will let me know whenever something is planned so I can pass it along to you. ---------------------------

I met Randy in our first class the first day of 7th grade at John Muir, actually the first two periods, English and Social Studies. I had been used to always being the tallest and biggest in class, as many of you may remember. Then I arrived at John Muir and in my first class met this "man", Randy!! In another six weeks or so that will be fifty years ago. About five years ago Randy and Carole and I reconnected in a closer friendship. Two and a half years ago during the time I was recovering after surgery from a badly broken ankle and was in a leg cast, in a wheelchair, and couldn't drive, all for seven weeks, Randy and Carole became my primary drivers for my medical appointments, plus took me out for dinner every week. Since that time up to a few months ago we would meet regularly for dinner here in the Santa Clarita Valley where they've lived for 27 years and I've lived for 24 years now. I thought so highly of both of them, and came to love them for their kindness, generosity, and friendship. I'll miss them both very much, but of course nothing compared to the void and huge sorrow their family is enduring right now.---- From Alan Landros, BHS 1970

Luis “Louie” Rey Cardenas, BHS 1945

Luis Rey Cardenas August 25, 1927 - January 21, 2015 Luis “Louie” Cardenas, 87, passed away on the morning of January 21st at Windsor Gardens Healthcare Center in North Hollywood after a brief illness and long battle with dementia. Lou was born to Guadalupe Cardenas and Manuela Losoya in a small house in Burbank. He graduated from Burbank High School in 1945 where he participated in choir and track. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. For 32 years, he worked as a Supervisor for the City of Burbank Street Construction and Design section. After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and watching Track & Field events and Football on TV. He was an avid fan of the UCLA Bruins. Louie could often be seen jogging or walking all over Burbank for many years, reliving his high school days on the track team. A lifelong resident of Burbank, he was known and loved by many friends in the city and had been active in Burbank High Alumni activities. He is survived by daughters, Gwen Cardenas of Glendale, CA., Doris Cardenas-Burrola (John) of Burbank, CA. and son, Christopher Cardenas of Burbank, CA.; grandchildren, Angel Ricciardi, David Diaz, and Christian Burrola; nieces and nephews, Rita Gasco Cardenas, Sam Cardenas, Joseph Cardenas, Francisco “Kiko” Cardenas, Mary Cardenas, Rafael Cardenas, Edmundo Cardenas and Lisa Landeros Zavala; as well as numerous grand- nephews and grand-nieces.

The family wishes to thank Lou’s former wife, Angelina Moore, and the caregivers at Le Bleu Chateau Assisted Living for their compassion and exceptional care during the sunset of Lou’s life. Lou wished to be cremated but a memorial service will be held at Valley Funeral Home in Burbank, CA. on February 12th at 2pm. Augostino Licursi, BHS 1941

Augostino Licursi, BHS 1941------------- Augostino Licursi, passed away on November 29, 2014, just one week short of his 92nd birthday. Augie served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Smalley, DD 565 Destroyer. He and his wife Marian, raised their family in Burbank and would have celebrated their 69th wedding ammiversary in February 2015. Augie was an electrical engineer and spent his career designing and consulting on security systems for large organizations, such as CBS. Augie's three children, Sam Licursi (BHS 64), Pam Licursi Clemons (BHS 66), and Debby Licursi Steelman (BHS 72) all grew up attending Burbank schools. Augie's family and Italian heritage were an important part of his life and he cherished the close bond he had with his family. In addition to his wife and three children, Augie is survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a kind and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to tell a good story. He will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Warren Clifford "Cliff" Aller, BHS 1960

Cliff Aller passed away on May 13, 2014 in Burbank, California. He graduated from Burbank High in 1960, later marrying his high school sweetheart, Georgiann Harris. Although they divorced years later, they remained friends. 

In 1964, he joined the Los Angeles Police Department and retired 26 years later. Cliff enjoyed restoring cars and homes. His most recent project was to remodel his childhood home for his daughter Lisa. 

He is survived by his 4 children, Lisa (husband Robert Ashby), Mark (partner Manny Ramirez), David (wife Deana) and Michel (Partner Scott Milam). He had 3 granddaughters, Dylan, Haily, Lucy, and 4 nieces, Jennifer, Stephanie, Lilly and Rose. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Steve Harris (wife Paula). 

A memorial service will be held at his daughter Lisa's home on May 31, 2014 at 11:00 A.M.

Lynda Parker Lockwood, BHS 1964

On January 20, 2015, at the age of 68 Lynda went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Lynda was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. -------- She leaves behind, her husband of almost 50 years, John Lockwood. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer and her husband Jim Hammond and their three children; son Scott and his wife Sara and their three boys; son Todd and his wife Julie and their two boys and daughter Amy and her son.----- Lynda was one of only several non-athletes at the University of Colorado to receive a letter and was the honorary recipient of the "Career Achievement" award from the University and Athletic Department. -------In lieu of flowers she would be pleased to know that donations were made on her behalf to the Alumni "C" Club. Milton David Huffine, BHS 1954

Milton Huffine was born in a small cabin near Independence Pass south of Aspen, CO on November 4, 1936. He attended school in Carbondale, CO but graduated in 1954 from Burbank High School in Southern CA. Milton enlisted in the Army serving as an aircraft engine mechanic stationed in Germany for several years.

Following honorable discharge, he returned to work as a skilled machinist for the aerospace industry at Lawrence Engineering and Supply Burbank, CA. He also worked for Lawrence Engineering’s Dallas warehouse. Milton returned to Carbondale, CO in 1974 working as a machinist with Earnest Welding Supply in Glenwood Springs for several years. He enjoyed listening to classic country music, building mechanical things, reading multiple newspapers, studying explorer books and invention magazines. He died on January 19, 2015 at E. Dene Moore Care Center in Rifle, CO having attained the age of 78.

Milton lived 30 years in New Castle, CO. He is survived by his wife, Margie Davis of New Castle and their daughter, Penny Davis of Carbondale; three sisters: Susan Woodhouse of Rifle, CO; Elaine Barker of Sun Valley, CA, and Mary Huffine of Rifle, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jim Huffine and Mina Huffine of Carbondale, two half-brothers, Clarence Huffine and Eugene Huffine; two half-sisters, Alta M. (Huffine) Spaulding, and Ella Mae (Huffine) Phillips, his brother, Calvin Huffine of Little Rock, AR, and his brother, Ben Huffine of Rifle, CO.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 28th at Riverside Center, 126 North 4th St, New Castle at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mountain Valley Developmental Services, P.O. Box 338, Glenwood Springs, CO 81602. An account, in Margie Davis name, has been set up at Alpine Bank NC to cushion expenses.

Robert Wesley Swaisgood, BHS 1963

Robert W. Swaisgood passed away suddenly at the age of 70 on November 16, 2014 in the City of Santa Clarita, CA. Born in Los Angeles, he grew up in Burbank with his parents (Ruth and George) and older siblings, Ron and Joyce. After graduating from Burbank High School he joined the Naval Reserve and was assigned to the United States Naval Battalion or Seabees at Port Hueneme.

On Memorial Day 1965 he was asked to play TAPS for Admiral John Ford and Captain John Wayne. He was honorably discharged after serving two tours of duty in Viet Nam He met and married his former wife Cindy at Los Angeles Valley College. During this time he settled in the San Fernando Valley, where his only child, Garrett was born. 

He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of La Verne while working for the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power. He retired from the DWP as the Chief Electrical Service Representative, Power System Engineering. He was a Boy Scout Leader, a Saugus High School Cross Country/Track Booster Parent and drove a NASCAR at the Irwindale Race Track. He was proud to have Native American Osage ancestry. His greatest joy came from spending time with family, friends and especially babysitting his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his sone Garrett and Garrett's wife Melinda of Castaic, CA. Three grandchildren: Danielle, Connor and Wyatt. A brother Ron of Gig Harbor, WA., step-sister, Maria Smith, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, in-laws and his former wife Cindy. A Military Service with interment was conducted at the Los Angeles National Cemetery, Los Angeles, CA on December 9, 2014.

David Thomas May, BHS 1954

David Thomas May, BHS 1954
August 18, 1936 - November 20, 2008

David Thomas (Tom) May was born August 18, 1936 in, Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph D. May and Gwin Sidebotham May. He passed away at the age of 72 on November 20, 2008, in Sequim, Washington.

A celbration of Life will be held on July 26, 2009. Tom graduated from Burbank High School in California. He graduated from Glendale Junior College in August, 1956. Tom received a B.A. in Political Science at Long Beach State in California. He was a class of 1983 graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C.

In October 1956, Tom entered flight training at NAS Pensacola, Florida, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and designated as a Navy Aviator in April 1958. In 1963, after completing an inter-service transfer to the Navy, Tom returned to active duty and was assigned as a flight instructor with HT-8. Since that time, he was assigned to HS-6, deployed aboard the USS Kearsarge for two tours in Southeast Asia, conducting ASW and combat search and rescue operations. In June 1970, he was assigned as the first officer-in-charge of HS-84. In November 1973. he was transferred to the Chief of Naval Reserve staff in New Orleans, where he served first as the Inspector General and later as the Helicopter Flight Programs Officer. He then served as Executive Officer of HS-84 from December 1976 to December 1977, and as the commanding officer of the squadron from December 1977 until June 1979. In August, 1983, he assumed command of the Naval Air Station, Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. He was then reassigned to serve as the Deputy Commander of the Naval Reserve Readiness Command, Region 20, in San Francisco, California, where he later retired in 1989. During his time in the military, Capt. D.T. May was awarded eleven medals.

Tom married Patricia A. Bryan on June 16, 1973, in Imperial Beach, California. Tom and his wife, Patricia, retired in Sequim in 1989, where they built their home on Lost Mountain. He worked for the Sequim post office part-time as a rural route carrier. His hobbies were running marathons, flying planes and helicopters, camping, scuba diving, fishing, hiking and traveling, and he was also an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia A. May, who resides in Sequim; daughter, Joanie May, and son-in-law, Paul Kneuer, who also reside in Sequim; daughter, Delana Guzenski, of Alden, Pennsylvania; son aqnd daughter-in-law, Jon and Mamie May, of Mill Creek, Washington; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kelly May, of La Quinta, California; daughter and son-in-law, Rusti and Wayne Clark, of Port Angeles; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and John Sisk, of Palo Alto, California; 12 grandchilden and two great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his youngest son, Daniel.

We wish to thank Olympic Medical Center, the Olympic Medical Cancer Center, Dr. Thomas Kummet and his wonderful staff, and Assured Hospice for their loving care during his last days. We will miss his humor, storytelling, dry wit and, most of all, the love he had to give to his family and friends.

David Lance Freemon, BHS 1974

David Lance Freemon, BHS 1974____ Man dies of injuries suffered in 12-foot leap escaping fire____ Forth Worth-Star Telegram, Thursday, November 23, 1996 - Richland Hills, TX - A 39-year-old Richland Hills electronics technician died Tuesday after suffering injuries from jumping 12 feet from a second-story window to escape a fire early Saturday. David L. Freemon died at North Hills Hospital in North Richland Hills from internal injuries, officials said. Freemon jumped from his apartment at 6637 Bridges Ave, after it caught fire about 2:45 a.m. Saturday, fire officials said. "It is really out of the norm," Richland Hills Fire Chief Greg Tucker said. "Our investigators were talking with the man the day after the fire. He was in some pain, but it didn't seem like the injuries were that serious." Tarrant County medical examiners said Freemon died as a result of lung injuries related to multiple broken ribs. Tucker said the window was 12 feet above the ground at the spot where fire fighters found Freemon. Dispatchers for the Fire Department received the first call on the fire about 2:48 a.m., Tucker said. Three engines arrived at the scene at 2:50 a.m. and found Freemon at 2:55 a.m. "Firefighters searched the building, and everything looked OK." Tucker said. "They discovered a victim outside between the buildings." A neighbor heard shattering glass, caused by Freemon's escape, and called 911, according to reports. A North Richland Hills ambulance crew started treating Freemon at 3 a.m., Tucker said. The fire remains under investigation, but Tucker said it may have been caused by a burning cigarette. Firefighters from Richland Hills, North Richland Hills and Haltom City responded to the blaze, which was contained to one apartment.

John William Baxter, BHS 1975

The Bakersfield Californian, Sunday, June 30, 1974, MOTHER, 5 KIDS DIE IN CRASH, Bishop, CA- A Burbank, woman, her five children and a neighbor were killed Saturday in a fiery crash on US 395 when a semi-trailer broke loose from its hitch and slammed into a pick-up truck carrying the seven persons, the Highway Patrol said. Patricia Baxter, 42, a neighbor, Harold L. Culler, 60, also of Burbank, and Mrs. Baxter's five Children were killed instantly in the crash about 13 miles north of here, the CHP said. The seven were reportedly traveling to Carson City, NV, to visit relatives. The five children were identified as John, 16, Tina, 14, Michel, 12, Patricia, 10, and Tanya, 7. The driver of the semi-truck, Francisco G. Flores, 25, of Lake View Terrace, was treated for minor injuries officials said.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BURBANK MOTHER, 5 CHILDREN DIE IN FIERY HIGHWAY CRASH, Burbank Daily Review, June 29, 1974. A Burbank woman and her five children were killed Friday in a fiery traffic accident near Bishop, California. Dead are, Mrs. Patricia L. Baxter, 42, of North Frederic Street, and her children, John, 17, Tina, 15, Michelle, 12, Patricia, 10 and Tanya, 8. Burbank police investigator Jeff Pratt, who was asked by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department to notify the children's father of the accident, said a logging truck apparently went out of control and hit the camper the vacationing family was riding in. The camper burst into flames. All the victims, Pratt said, were apparently burned beyond recognition. But investigators were able to identify them through other information. The father, Bill Baxter, also of Burbank has been divorced from the children's mother.
