Audrey M. Parker died December 30, 2002, in San Diego. She was 95, and lived a life well in advance of her times. Dr. Parker was born November 7, 1907, in Des Moines, Iowa, the oldest child of Leslie and Lura Parker. She was raised in Southern California. She graduated Occidental College in 1929, and afterward taught fourth grade in Glendale.
She joined the Navy as a lieutenant in 1943. She served as assistant to the superintendent of aviation training in Jacksonville, Fla., and was commended upon her discharge in 1946. In 1948, she took a position as dean of women at Bethany College in West Virginia. She then moved to Ohio Wesleyan University, where she served as dean of women from 1949 to 1963. Dr. Parker earned her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1955. Soon after, she spent a year in Scandinavia studying women's education. Dr. Parker returned to California in 1963, as dean of women at California Western University. She retired in the mid-1970s. Dr. Parker was a member of the San Diego Historical Society and the American Association of University Women.
She traveled extensively and spent time with many close friends and family. Dr. Parker is survived by her niece, Jeni Booth; nephews, Bruce Parker and David Parker; sister-in-law Janet Parker; great-nieces Sarah Lewis, Claire Chapman, Laurie Parker and Aimee Booth; great-nephews Darren Parker, Brent Parker and Kenny Booth; and two great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Parker; nephew Gary Parker; and great-nephew Seth Parker. At Dr. Parker's request, no services were held.

Scott Blair Horton

Our family misses him so much even though it has been many years since he has passed away.
Scott actually died from a very acute form of Leukemia. He was in remission for almost a year and doing really well. He bought a pick up truck, went skydiving and got a dog.
Then one day he wasn't feeling well and thought he had a cold. Tragically, the cancer had come back in a more aggressive form. My sister was a bone marrow match for him, but he didn't survive long enough to have the transplant.
He was 20 years old when he died. Way too young for anyone to be taken from a family. We will all miss him for the rest of our lives. Thanks again for taking time to remember my brother! Julie Horton

1 killed, 5 injured in Palmdale traffic crash
PALMDALE – A 47-year-old Lancaster woman was killed Tuesday evening when a pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic and caused a four-vehicle collision in Palmdale, authorities said. It happened around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015 on Pearblossom Highway, just west of 40th Street East, according to Deputy Danielle Day of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
“During our preliminary investigation, we determined that the driver of [a] white Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound in the No. 1 lane of Pearblossom Highway. The driver veered off into the No. 1 lane of the westbound traffic of Pearblossom Highway and collided head-on with the driver of a black Honda Accord,” Day said.
A westbound Chrysler 300 hit the rear driver’s side of the Honda Accord and then sideswiped the Honda Accord during or just after the head-on collision between the Accord and the pickup, said Sgt. Tucker of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.The Ford pickup truck then came to rest against a westbound Honda Civic hatchback, Tucker said.
The Accord’s passenger, 47-year-old Shyrell Lynn Hamner of Lancaster, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. The Accord’s male driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, sheriff’s officials said. The Ford pickup truck’s driver was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Tucker said.
Three occupants in the Chrysler 300 sustained minor injuries — two females were transported to the hospital and a male declined to be transported, Tucker said. The Honda Civic’s driver complained of pain but was not transported to the hospital, according to Tucker.
Neither alcohol nor weather appeared to be factors in the collision, sheriff’s officials said. The incident remains under investigation and no further information was available Wednesday morning.

Sun Valley Sky Diver Falls to Her Death
A 26-year-old Sun Valley sky diver plummeted to her death Sunday February 23, 1964, when her parachute and safety parachute failed to open. Miss Diane Richards of 8154 De Garmo Ave landed in a plowed field northeast of Arvin in the San Joaquin Valley after falling 3,500 feet. The chutes of three other skydivers who jumped from the plane at the same time opened safely.
Pilot Gene F. McMahon, 34, of Compton, told Kern County sheriff's investigators that Miss Richards parachute came out of the pack but failed to open. A second chute also failed to function.
The group from the Antelope Valley Parasports Center originally planned to skydive in the Lancaster area, McMahon said, but the wind was too strong. He said Miss Richards had jumped more than 20 times before.

Diane Faye Richards
Funeral services for Diane Faye Richards, 26, will be held Thursday, at 10 am at the Fillbach Bailey Chapel. Mrs. Richards, 8154 De Garmo Ave, Sun Valley, died Sunday when her parachute failed to open during a sky diving exhibition in Kern County.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Bernice Schilling of Burbank, a daughter, Denise; a sister, Mrs. Karen Waid of Hollywood, her grandfather, Gus Schilling of Burbank and her grandmother, Mrs. H.L. Dean of San Diego. Rev. Arthur W. Pelkey of Avalon Community Church, Catalina, will officiate at the services. Interment will be at Glen Haven Memorial Park.
Mrs. Richards was raised in Burbank and was graduated from Burbank High School. She was employed by Pacific Airmotive Corp. for two and a half years. She was a member of Antelope Valley Parasports Center.
Robert "Bob" Brian Gingell
July 29, 1945 - September 10, 2018

Bob Gingell, BHS '64, passed away last year on September 10, 2018.
He is the brother of Guy Gingell, BHS 1966 and Valerie Gingell, Burroughs 1955. Bob was born on July 29, 1945 and after high school, he joined the Marines. Later, he worked for Rocketdyne as a mechanic on the space shuttle.
Bob was a resident of Nevada at the time of passing. Among his survivors are his wife Mary Ann and son Todd.
Celebration of Life was held Thursday September 21, 2018 at Mt Charleston Baptist Church in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Robert Brian Gingell

Robert Brian Gingell, age 73, a veteran of the U.S. Marines, engineer, husband, father and grandfather, of Las Vegas Nevada, passed away on Monday September 10, 2018.
He was born to Herbert Gingell and Ruthann Smythe on July 29, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, children and grandchildren ; and a host of relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday September 21, 2018 at 12 noon at Mt Charleston Baptist CHurch, 1 Kyle Canyon Road in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Nelva S. Ross
Camarillo, CA
NOVEMBER 5, 1932 ~ DECEMBER 24, 2018 (AGE 86)
Nelva Ross passed away on December 24, 2018 in her home in Camarillo. She was born in Buffalo New York. She moved with her family to California in 1943. The family settled in Burbank and Nelva graduated from Burbank High School in 1950.
Her first job was with Pacific Telephone and later in the aerospace industry with Lockheed Martin until her retirement in 1992. Nelva and husband, Les Ross, moved to Camarillo in 1998 from Valencia.
Nelva was preceded in death by her husband in 2007. Nelva is survived by her sister, Wanda Costello and brother, Lucian Bartoletti.

John E. Morris, BHS 1936

Funeral services will be conducted Monday for former Burbank resident John E. Morris, who died Thursday December 18, 1969 in a Sylmar hospital. He was born on June 23, 1917.
Services will be at the Country Chapel at Pierce Bros Mortuary, 10621 Victory in North Hollywood. Interment will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 pm today and 8 am to 9 pm Sunday.
Born in St. Louis, Mr. Morris lived in this area for about 40 years and in Burbank for 30 years, until moving to Sylmar. He was a 1936 graduate of Burbank High School and was employed as an upholsterer.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel; three brothers, Wesley of Burbank, Carl of Sun Valley and Oliver of North Hollywood; one sister, Edna of Long Beach; two daughters, Mrs. Pat Peterson and Mrs. Sherrie Bernheimer, both of Sylmar; one son, Richard of Sylmar; and two grandchildren.
Robert Norton Basile, BHS 1970

Bob Basile passed away on May 7, 2019 at 10:15 P.M., after a long battle with cancer. He was 67. The Basile family first lived on Sparks St. in Burbank, then about 1965 moved to 821 E. Angeleno, and Bob attended 8th and 9th grade at John Muir. He went all the way through BHS and graduated with the 1970 Class. (Bob doesn't have a senior picture in the 1970 Ceralbus, so the photo shown is his junior picture - sorry a bit blurry due to small size of original photos.)
After high school Bob was in the U.S. Air Force. He then attended Cal State Fullerton and received a B.A. degree in Accounting. He had lived many years in Carlsbad in San Diego County. He was a commercial airline pilot for Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Air, and had been a corporate pilot for a Newport Beach company. He was also a flight instructor, and had also been a partner in a flight charter business in Carlsbad, Basile Aviation, and had co-owned a Cessna 310 plane.
Bob was never married and had no children. Bob was one of 7 children in the Basile family. Only he and sister, Sue Basile attended BHS, (Class of '64), as the family moved to Costa Mesa in 1972. Of the 7 siblings there are now only three surviving, Sue, younger brother, Jim Basile (four years younger than Bob), and one other younger brother.
Leota Mary Caleel Bancroft, BHS 1969

Leota Bancroft, 58, passed away on May 30, 2010 in Burbank, California where she resided. Leota was born on August 31, 1951 in Los Angeles County, the daughter of Norman and Catherine (Kitty) Caleel. Her parents building the first McDonalds in Burbank.
Leota married Joseph P Veraldi on July 31, 1971 in Los Angeles and they later divorced in October 1974 in Los Angeles. Leota married two other times with the last being Bancroft.
Leota is survived by her mother Catherine and two sisters, Christy Curtis and Liz Weiss. She was preceded in death by her father, Norman who passed in 2005. Leota was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills, California.

CHATSWORTH : Motorist Sought in Fatal Car Accident

Police are looking for Adolfo Aguirre Jr., 22, in connection with a car accident in which a Burbank man died.
Kevin Patrick Lowman, 31, was traveling west on Roscoe Boulevard in Chatsworth on Tuesday when the driver of a Jeep making a left turn onto Tobias Avenue struck Lowman's motorcycle, killing him, authorities said.
One witness of the 7:25 p.m. accident said the Jeep driver stopped briefly to look at Lowman before fleeing on foot.
Witnesses described the driver of the Jeep as a man 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 7, weighing 140 pounds. Police are asking anyone with information about Aguirre's whereabouts to call Detective John Miller or Detective Greg Pfeifle of the LAPD's Valley traffic division at (818) 989-8391.
