Carl "Bud" Maurice Lundquist Jr., BHS 1953

Carl, or Bud grew up in Burbank and was the oldest of five children. His siblings were Carol Lundquist Thompson, BHS '56 (1938-2002), Richard 'Dick' Lundquist, BHS '54 (1936-1990), Barbie Lundquist Manor, BHS '58 and Gary Lundquist, BHS '62 (1944-2009).

Their parents were Carl (1907-1988) and Anne (1912-1966) Lundquist and they lived on the corner of Angeleno and BelAire in Burbank..

After college graduation, Bud married Patricia Palmer and they had three children: Karen, Kristine and Charles. Bud was an engineer in the aerospace industry. In the late 1970's they divorced. Bud then married Lori.

He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Veronica, Steven and Nicole.

Carl will be missed by many.

Obituary

Carl "Bud" M. Lundquist, Jr., 78, of Oak Park, Calif., passed away on March 21, 2013. Carl was born on September 21, 1934, the oldest son of five children born to Anne and Carl Lundquist in Oak Park, Ill. He graduated from Burbank High in 1953, and Pacific State University in 1959. He served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1961.

He is survived by his wife, Lori, of 18 years; and his children Karen, Kristine and Charles; his stepchildren Tracy, Sheri, Trish and Gregg; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Barb Manor.

Graveside services will be held at Glen Haven Cemetery, 13017 N. Lopez Canyon Road, Sylmar, Calif. 91342, on Friday, April 5, at 11 a.m.

Robert Lee "Bob" Crawford, BHS 1964

Robert Crawford passed away in an auto accident in Reno, Nevada on November 29, 2012.  He was 67.  He was buried at Forest Lawn Glendale next to other family members. 

He had recently moved from Santa Clarita back to Reno where he had lived in previous years.  Robert was born August 3, 1945 and grew up in Burbank, attending Central Elementary and Jordan Jr. High.  He began high school at Burroughs and then transferred to BHS for his last two years.  

For about twelve years from the early 1970's until the early 1980's Robert worked for the City of Burbank in the Streets Department in the Asphalt Division. 

Robert was predeceased by his son, Paul Crawford.  He is survived by his parents, Richard "Dick" Crawford, BHS '39, and Betty Crawford, Glendale High '41, of Friendly Valley in Santa Clarita, who have been married for 71 years; his older brother, Richard James Crawford, JBHS '61, of Canyon Country; and is also survived by two daughters.

Gladys Johnson Haynes, BHS 1946

Gladys Johnson Haynes passed away early Sunday morning, March 3, 2013, at her home in Burbank.  She was 84.  About two years ago she was diagnosed with cancer.  She also had diabetes.  Only a few weeks before her death her health worsened significantly.  She had had help from Hospice for only about two weeks when she passed away.
 
Gladys worked for many years for the Burbank Board of Education before her retirement.  Her husband, Jim Haynes, worked for the Burbank Unified School District for many years before his retirement from JBHS.  Both Gladys and Jim were in the BHS '46 Class.
 
Gladys is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Jim Haynes; her 3 children, Julie, Kathy, and Bob; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Lena Hobbs was born September 5, 1921. As a young girl she moved with her family to Burbank. They lived at Verdugo and Glenoaks. Lena went through school in Burbank, and graduated from Burbank High School in 1940. 


She later met Willard Peckham who had moved to Southern California from Wisconsin. They were married in May of 1941. They had three daughters, Linda (BHS '60), Nancy (BHS '64), and Janice (BHS '72). In the 1940's Willard became a Burbank Police Officer. In the early 1950's he changed from BPD to the Burbank Fire Department where he remained until his retirement in 1972, at the Bel Aire Station at the top of Uclan Dr. for many years before he retired. 

From 1952 until 1972 Lena and Willard lived at Hilton Dr. and Eton in Burbank. During her years in Burbank Lena attended the Burbank Foursquare Church, First Baptist Church of Burbank at Fairmount and Glenoaks, and lastly Calvary Bible Church at Main St. and Alameda.

 
In September 1972 Lena and Willard moved to Northern California to Clearlake Oaks, where they lived for the next 40 years. Their home was on Clearlake, and their back yard went down to their dock where they kept their boat. During those years they also took many trips around the country in their motorhome. This past November they moved about thirty miles to Lucerne, CA, to live next door to their youngest daughter, Janice, and her husband.

 
Lena Hobbs Peckham passed away at home in Lucerne, CA on Tuesday afternoon, February 12, 2013, at age 91. Her husband, daughter, and son-in-law were with her when she passed away. This May she and Willard would have had their 72nd wedding anniversary. Willard is now age 95, and remains in good health.

 
Lena is survived by her husband, Willard H. Peckham, daughters Linda Peckham Christian of Portland, OR, Nancy Peckham Burris of Cloverdale, CA, and Janice Peckham Jennings of Lucerne, CA, nine grandchildren, and twenty-seven great-grandchildren, two half-sisters, five nieces, and one nephew. She was a sweet, sweet lady who will be missed by her large and loving family and her many friends."

Michael William Jelen was born on May 31, 1946, in Hettinger, North Dakota. Michael’s family was by his side as he died at Kaiser Hospital in Irvine, California. He had fought the battle of Congestive Heart Failure with complications from Diabetes for over 4 years. Mike was the only son and second child of Charlotte Marie (Schumacher) Jelen and Ernest Michael Jelen.

When Michael was just a baby the family moved to Los Angeles, California..The family lived in Roger Young Village for a few years and later settled in Burbank, California. Mike attended St. Finbar’s Grade School, Bellarmine Jefferson High School and graduated from Burbank High School before earning his A.A. Degree in Accounting from Los Angeles Valley College. He worked in and owned his own computer services businesses that specialized in high speed printing.

Mike moved to Orange County, California, approximately twelve years ago. He was able to visit with his family often, study history and enjoy college football games on Saturday afternoons.

Mike is survived by his three daughters: Michelle Jelen, Nicole Jelen and Bridget Alves. In addition, Mike leaves his younger sister, Kathy (Jelen) John Coultas, and older sister, Charlanne (Jelen) Paul Nee, and his niece Jennifer (Coultas) Donovan and her family and his nephews: Phil, Andy and Paul Coultas. Mike was very proud of the many accomplishments of each of his daughters. This last summer he was able to travel with his family to his youngest daughter’s graduation from the University of Washington, in Seattle, Washington.

Danny Blackley, 20, died Friday, September 19, 1975, in a Burbank Hospital. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, he was a resident of Burbank for 14 years.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Blackley, of Burbank; and one sister Terry Blackley of Burbank.

He was a graduate of Burbank High School, Class of 1973.

Visitation will be through 9 o'clock tonight. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 24 at the Eckerman-Heisman Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills. Eckerman-Heisman Funeral Services, Burbank directors.

Ann C. Morra Frescura, a lifetime Burbank resident, passed away on October 26, 2012 in Burbank. She was 95.

Ann was born on January 28, 1917, to Antonio and Amelia Morra on the family farm in Burbank, her parents having migrated from Italy. She was predeceased by her husband Bert Frescura, her parents, her five siblings, Louis, Pete and Mike Morra and Madeline Washick and baby Louisa Morra, her grandson Robert Frescura.

She lived her entire life in Burbank having lived in the same home since 1948. She was a long time member and docent with the Burbank Historical Society and was an active member of the Women’s Club of Burbank and the Franciscan Seniors. She loved playing cards and taking trips to the casinos. She was a long time L.A. Dodger and seldom missed watching a game.

She was the best Mom and Grandma, always putting her family first, living by the Golden Rule, always with a smile and always finding the good in everyone. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Forever in our hearts Mom/Gram. We wish her peace and comfort now that she is reunited with her husband and family.

She is survived by her sons Bert (Carolyn) Frescura of Cupertino, Bob Frescura of St. Helena, daughter Barbara Bartman of Burbank, granddaughters Eryn Bartman of Sherman Oaks, Dreah (Greg) Bitter of Mesa, AZ, grandsons Bart Frescura of Alameda and Tony Frescura of Salinas; Jeff, Greg, Niki and families; four great-granddaughters, Talia, Tessa, Tabitha Bitter of Arizona and Erika Frescura of Florida.

Funeral services were held on October 30, 2012 at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. Interment followed.

Passed away in San Rafael on January 27, 2013 at the age of 78 years. Devoted wife of Tim Kinion of Petaluma. Loving mother of Kelly Lombardi (Peter) of Santa Rosa, Kathy Kinion of Cotati, and Glen Kinion (Jennifer) of San Rafael.

She grew up in the San Fernando Valley, graduating from Burbank High School in 1952. Shortly thereafter she met Tim, on a blind date. They were married after his army service during the Korean War. They chose to move their family to Petaluma from Los Angeles in 1969. She and her husband were founding members and remained active in the Velo Club Miwok bicycle club since its inception in 1976. Ever since her retirement she enjoyed meeting with former coworkers in a monthly sewing circle. She loved to travel with her husband. Among her favorite places were Carmel, CA and Wengen, a village in the Swiss Alps.

Until her retirement in 1992 Jo Ann was the school secretary at McKinley Elementary School for 18 years and worked at several other Petaluma schools before that.

Jo Ann was not afraid to voice her opinions. Her easy laughter and warmth will be remembered fondly.

Kathleen Anne "Kathi" Wagner, BHS 1968

July 28, 1950 - January 28, 2013

 
Kathi Wagner passed away Monday night, January 28, 2013, from cancer, which she had battled for a long time. She was exactly 62 1/2. Kathi was the oldest of four children in the Wagner Family. Her sister, Karen Wagner, BHS '70, still lives in Burbank. There was also their brother, John Wagner, and a younger sister. They grew in the 900 block of Delaware Road in Burbank. Kathi attended Emerson Elementary, John Muir, and BHS, graduating in 1968.

 
Kathi was very involved in school life while she was at BHS. She was a talented actress, and was the star of many of the plays during her three years in high school. She was the female lead/star in all of the productions during her senior year. She was also a dancer, and was in dance class with Mrs. Carol Gregory Le Blanc, and performed in "Dance Performance '68". She was voted "Most Talented" female, along with Steve Burns as "Most Talented" male, in the 1968 Ceralbus.
