Lois Bertha Barnes Buchen, BHS 1939

Lois Bertha (Barnes) Buchen, BHS 1939

Ventura - Lois Bertha (Barnes) Buchen passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home and into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 22, 2022 at the age of 100. She died from a stroke and subsequent complications. Lois was born in El Centro, CA on June 27, 1921 to Scott and Bertha Barnes. She was the third daughter out of 5 girls. She spoke often of her early life growing up on the ranch. The family eventually moved to Burbank where she graduated from Burbank High School. In 1941, she married the love of her life, Clarence Buchen in the Burbank Foursquare Church. They attended LIFE Bible College in Los Angeles until he was drafted into the Navy during WWII. Lois did some bookkeeping for the Navy and some work in the shipyards.

After the war they started their family. Lois had 2 daughters, Carol and Janet. Most of her child rearing years were spent in Lakewood, CA. She made sure they were raised loving the Word of God and music through her Christian example. Lois and Clarence often sang duets in church and on Christian radio. There were always plenty of music lessons and trips to church camp. She was always active in her church sewing for missionaries and teaching Sunday School classes. She was an incredible seamstress from the age of 9. She also put her practical nursing skills to work by caring for the kids in the neighborhood, especially Carol's best friend, Sandy (McClung) Brown, that she loved like she was her own daughter. She was devoted to her family and was a blessed Christian mother. Eventually, she and "Ernie" retired to La Conchita in Ventura where they did a lot of traveling in their motorhome with their grandsons.

Lois is survived by her daughters, Carol Flack of Ventura and Janet Sangren and her husband Wayne of Ventura. She has 2 grandsons, Jon Sangren, his wife Karina and great-grandson Noah of Santa Clarita. Also, Kristopher Sangren and his wife Bojana of Simi Valley. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Clarence, her parents Scott and Bertha Barnes, and her son-in-law Curt Flack.

Graveside services were held at the Santa Barbara Cemetery, Santa Barbara. The service was officiated by Dr. Leonard DeWitt of Ventura Jubilee Fellowship in Ventura. Arrangements are under the direction of JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura.
