BRISTOL REALTOR, ROTARIAN SUE M. SHAWL DIES AT 46

Sue M. Shawl, 46, of Vance Drive, Bristol, Tennessee, died Monday, January 18, 1988, in Bristol Memorial Hospital.

She was a native of California and had lived in Bristol for the past 17 years. She was a co-owner and real estate broker with Heritage Homes of Bristol and held the designation of G.R.I. She was a member and past president of the Bristol Board of Realtors and was a member and former regional vice president of the

Tennessee Association of Realtors.

Mrs. Shawl was a graduate of Burbank High School, Valedictorian of her senior class, a graduate of Occidental College in Los Angeles and served as president of her college sorority.

She was one of six original female members of the Rotary Club of Bristol; a member of the Board of Directors of the Country Club of Bristol; the Board of Governors of Bristol Memorial Hospital; the President’s Round Table of King College; and the Child Study Club, serving as president.

She was also an active member of the Greater Bristol Area Chamber of Commerce and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Bristol. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and was active in numerous other civic, religious and professional organizations.

Survivors include her husband, Don Shawl; one daughter, Lisa Shawl, a student at Southern Methodist University; one son, Jeff Shawl, of the home; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Foster C. Merrill, Laguna Niguel, California. Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge.

SHAWL – A Memorial Mass for Sue M. Shawl will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in St. Annes’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Walter Lewis officiating. The family will greet friends at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Cancer Association, 126 Johnson Street, Bristol, Virginia, 24201, or, to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Tri-Cities, P.O. Box 1272, Bristol, Tennessee, 37621. Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge.
