Jacqueline Baker Petersen, BHS 1948
Jackie Petersen passed away peacefully in San Diego on Wednesday December 18, 2024 at the age of 94. She was born February 7, 1930 in Burbank, California, the daughter of Mary Baker (Hess) and Harry Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Bob Petersen, in 2018. She is survived by her son John Petersen (Shelagh) of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Nicolee Nourani (Robert) as well as grandchildren David (Caitlin), Eric and Joseph Nourani of San Diego.
She met her husband at Burbank High School and they were married in Burbank in 1951. She attended UCLA and San Jose State and taught elementary school in San Jose. In 1957 Bob and Jackie moved to San Diego where Bob worked in the aerospace industry and Jackie worked at home raising John, born 1956 and Nicolee, born 1958. Jackie returned to teaching in 1973, first substituting a few years, then teaching at Lowell Elementary School, working in the ESL program, until her retirement in 1990. She subsequently spent several years tutoring. Jackie also volunteered at Presbyterian Urban Ministries and the San Diego Uplift program. For over 60 years, Jackie and Bob were active members of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Point Loma and enjoyed singing in the choir and serving in various other areas.
Jackie and Bob loved spending time with family. They traveled extensively in the US and abroad and especially enjoyed camping and backpacking.
A celebration of life will be held for Jackie on March 8th, 2025 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church at 3598 Talbot St., San Diego, CA 92106, at 11:00 AM.
