Peter John Broadley, BHS 1965

September 1, 1947 - September 3, 2024

Peter J. Broadley, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at the New Glarus Home.  He was born on September 1, 1947 in Glendale, CA and is the son of John and Ellen (Foster) Broadley.  Peter grew up with a passion for surfing and boating with his family.  He graduated from Burbank High School in 1965.  In July of 1967, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the 173rd Airborne in Vietnam and was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.  

After his honorable discharge from the Army, Peter moved to Aspen, CO where he enjoyed downhill skiing and met Carol Follendorf.  They were united in marriage on June 7, 1975 in Wisconsin Dells (Carol’s hometown).  Peter and Carol enjoyed living and skiing in Aspen for the next six years until moving to the Lake Tahoe area in 1978.  In 1982, they moved to Oregon, WI where they raised their 2 daughters.  They owned and operated Pete’s Auto Parts in Oregon for several years and at the age of 47, 

Peter wanted a career change and entered the electrical apprenticeship program with the IBEW Local 159 in Madison.  Peter was a proud union journeyman electrician and worked at the University of Wisconsin for several years until retirement.  Peter always enjoyed the outdoors - boating, fishing, camping, and skiing with his family.  He was a member of the National Ski Patrol at Devil’s Head Ski Resort for 20 years.  He loved golfing with his buddies in Oregon and Evansville and their golf trips to Myrtle Beach.  In 2002, Peter and Carol built their dream home where they could enjoy the spectacular views overlooking the New Glarus hillsides.  For the past 8 years, Peter and Carol loved spending the winter seasons together on Oahu, Hawaii and having their daughters come for many special visits.  

Peter is survived by his wife Carol and daughters Jennifer and Allison.  He is further survived by his sister Heather Ludwig, sister-in-law Donna Johnson, sister-in-law Susan (Follendorf) Steffes, brother-in-law Mart Steffes, and sister-in-law Linda Follendorf.  As well as nieces Wendy, Amber, Amy, Sarah, nephew Scott and 7 great nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother John P. Broadley.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America in memory of Peter.  

A celebration of Peter’s life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday October 6, 2024 at the Chalet Landhaus Inn, 801 State Road 69, New Glarus, WI.
